Position Overview
Hurt’s Wastewater Management is seeking a dependable, safety-conscious Class A CDL Pump Truck Driver / Septic Service Operator to join our team.
This is not solely a driving position. The employee will be responsible for safely operating the pump truck and performing the complete septic pumping and cleaning service once onsite. This includes handling hoses, operating pumping equipment, opening and accessing septic tanks, cleaning tanks, transporting wastewater, and properly disposing of collected material.
Applicants must possess a valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License with a Tank Vehicle Endorsement and have an acceptable driving record.
Experience operating a septic pump truck, vacuum truck, tanker truck, or similar commercial equipment is preferred. Training on our specific pumping procedures and equipment may be provided to a qualified applicant.
Primary Responsibilities
· Safely drive and operate a commercial septic pump truck.
· Pump and clean residential and commercial septic tanks.
· Service aerobic treatment systems, grease traps, and other approved wastewater systems as assigned.
· Set up, connect, operate, disconnect, and properly store pumping hoses and related equipment.
· Locate and access septic tank lids when required.
· Remove and replace tank lids without causing unnecessary damage to the customer’s property.
· Operate pumps, valves, controls, hoses, and other truck-mounted equipment safely.
· Inspect the general condition of septic tanks and visible system components while performing service.
· Identify visible problems and communicate findings to the customer and office.
· Transport wastewater and septage to approved disposal facilities.
· Properly dispose of collected wastewater in accordance with company procedures and applicable regulations.
· Complete service tickets, disposal records, photographs, inspection information, and other required documentation accurately.
· Communicate professionally and courteously with customers.
· Protect customer property and leave the work area reasonably clean after completing service.
· Keep the pump truck, hoses, tools, and equipment clean, organized, and in safe operating condition.
· Perform required pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections.
· Monitor fluid levels, tires, lights, brakes, hoses, fittings, valves, pumps, and other truck components.
· Report mechanical problems, spills, damaged equipment, safety concerns, or customer issues immediately.
· Follow all company safety policies and applicable transportation and environmental regulations.
· Properly use required personal protective equipment.
· Assist with other septic service, maintenance, shop, or operational duties as needed.
Required Qualifications
· Valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License required.
· Valid Tank Vehicle Endorsement required.
· Acceptable motor vehicle driving record.
· Ability to meet all applicable commercial driver qualification requirements.
· Ability to safely operate a commercial pump truck and tanker vehicle.
· Ability to pass any required pre-employment and random drug and alcohol testing.
· Ability to perform the physical duties of the position.
· Willingness to work around septic wastewater, sewage, strong odors, insects, mud, and other unpleasant job-site conditions.
· Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
· Dependable attendance and ability to report to work on time.
· Strong attention to safety and proper operating procedures.
· Professional attitude when working with customers, coworkers, and disposal facility personnel.
· Ability to work independently.
· Ability to use a smartphone or tablet for job information, photographs, and service documentation.
· Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
Preferred Experience
· Previous septic tank pumping or wastewater service experience.
· Experience operating a septic pump truck, vacuum truck, tanker truck, or similar commercial vehicle.
· Experience operating truck-mounted pumps, vacuum systems, hoses, valves, and related equipment.
· Experience working in residential and commercial service environments.
· Basic knowledge of septic tanks, aerobic treatment systems, grease traps, or wastewater systems.
· Basic mechanical knowledge and the ability to recognize equipment problems.
Physical and Working Requirements
This position requires regular physical labor in outdoor environments. Employees must be able to:
· Frequently stand, walk, bend, kneel, squat, climb, push, and pull.
· Lift and carry hoses, tank lids, tools, and equipment weighing approximately 50 pounds or more.
· Pull and maneuver long, heavy pumping hoses across uneven ground.
· Open, remove, and replace septic tank lids.
· Work outdoors in heat, cold, rain, mud, dust, and changing weather conditions.
· Safely enter and exit the truck multiple times throughout the workday.
· Work around wastewater, sewage, odors, chemicals, insects, and unsanitary conditions while wearing appropriate protective equipment.
· Perform work at residential, commercial, rural, and construction locations.
· Work near open septic tanks while following all required safety procedures.
Schedule
This is a full-time position. Work hours may vary depending on daily routes, disposal facility hours, weather, traffic, and customer needs.
Some overtime, early mornings, weekends, emergency calls, or extended workdays may occasionally be required.
