JOB DESCRIPTION
JOB TITLE: Custodian DEPARTMENT: Maintenance/Assigned Campus
REPORTS TO: Supervisor of Operations, Head Custodian, and School Principals
PAY GRADE: M1
PRIMARY PURPOSE
Follows routine cleaning and maintenance procedures to maintain a high standard of safety, cleanliness, and efficiency of building operations and grounds of the Hurst-Euless-Bedford Independent School District.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Ability to read, speaks, and understands instructions in English for the purpose of performing cleaning, maintenance, and safety procedures.
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Knowledge of basic cleaning skills and techniques of custodial services
- Minor building repairs and grounds maintenance
- Ability to operate custodial equipment for cleaning hard surface and carpeted floors
- Ability to lift, carry and move heavy equipment, furniture, boxes and others items.
- Ability to properly handle cleaning supplies and chemicals
Minimum Experience:
- One year of experience in custodial services in a school district, institution, or commercial cleaning service.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
1. Provide a safe, clean, functional and comfortable environment that would allow the teachers to teach and the student to learn.
2. The responsibility for opening and/or closing the building each school day.
3. Follows established procedures for locking, checking, and safeguarding facilities.
4. Regulates heat, ventilation, and air-conditioning systems to provide appropriate temperatures and to ensure economical usage of fuel, water, and electricity according to the District’s Energy Program.
5. Checks daily to ensure that all exit doors are open and panic bolts are working properly during the hours of building occupancy.
6. Maintains the District’s cleaning schedule including cleaning the floors, chalkboards, wastebaskets, windows, furniture, equipment, restrooms and others areas.
7. Keeps the school building and grounds, including sidewalks, driveways, parking lots, neat and clean and liter free.
8. Immediately inform the Supervisor and Principal of hazards harmful to the students and staff.
9. Complies with laws and procedures for the storage and disposal of trash.
10. Makes minor building repairs as needed and reports major repairs needed to the Principal’s office.
11. Inspect and clean custodial equipment for safety and efficiency.
12. Maintain and inventory custodial cleaning supplies and equipment and order as needed.
13. Move furniture, equipment and boxes within building as directed by the Principal.
14. Follows all safety codes and standards as assigned by the Administration and/or Supervisor.
15. Demonstrates behavior that is professional, ethical and responsible.
16. Write employee data including work hours on the semi-monthly time sheet.
17. Follows all rules, regulations, and policies of the Hurst-Euless-Bedford Independent School
District, including those listed in the Maintenance and Operations Handbook.
18. Performs special and periodical duties including specifically assigned task and other functions that may be assigned by the School Administration, Supervisors or Head Custodian.
EQUIPMENT USED:
Custodial equipment to include, (but not limited to) buffer, wet and dry vacuum cleaner, electric
drill, ladder, broom, mop, carpet extractor, auto and ridding scrubber, propane burnisher and scrubber.

- Works outside and inside with occasional exposure to inclement weather, including heat, cold,

Pay: $13.25 - $21.47 per hour
