General Purpose
Assists in the professional and technical duties related to promoting, teaching, and developing golf within the community; assists to operate and manage a golf pro shop. Organizes, coordinates and correlates men, women, juniors, handicaps and other programs.
Supervision Received
Works under the general supervision and direction of the Golf Professional.
Essential Functions - (Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following tasks, knowledge, skills, and other characteristics. - Assists in the supervision of all shop attendants, starters and related personnel and ensures adequate scheduling of employees.
- Performs annual inventory of store and golf course supplies and equipment; fills out purchase orders; orders supplies; replaces work and old equipment.
- Assures proper maintenance of golf carts; monitors preventive maintenance program; purchases new carts and replacement parts.
- Assists in the development and enforcement of course policies, rules and regulations; monitors daily play to assure compliance; apprises and educates patrons and players as needed.
- Assists to organize, coordinate and implement men’s, women’s and junior programs; gives golf lessons; assists to maintain charts of running league scores.
- Assists to organize and manage special events and tournaments as needed to promote the game of golf and community recreation opportunities; provides education and instruction related to golf techniques and methods.
- Responds to customer complaints; assures customer satisfaction; answers inquiries and directs visitors; assists customers with purchases, rentals; collects green fees and fees for season or quarterly passes and maintains an accurate record of all transactions.
- Assists in the operation of the Grill; performs clerk and cook duties as required; insurers adequate shelf-stock and inventory.
Performs other related duties as required
Minimum Qualifications
· Graduation from High School; AND
· Sufficient experience and training to demonstrate an ability to perform above duties; OR
· An equivalent combination of education and experience related to the duties for this position.
· Possess and maintain a valid Utah Driver’s License throughout employment.
· Successful completion of pre-employment drug screening required.
Special Qualifications
· Must currently be a Class A PGA Member or Progressed to level 2 in PGA Associate (Apprentice) Program.
· Must be comfortable with the use of Golf Shop technologies (Golf Genius, GHIN Handicapping, Microsoft Office Suite) and be ready to learn as new systems emerge.
·At least two (2) years of experience working in the golf industry, preferably with golf course management experience.
· Two (2) years of experience working under the direction of a class "A" golf professional.
· Must be certified at least as a qualified class “Junior A” golf professional.
· All accredited certifications must be kept current. Failure to do so may result in loss of position.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
· Considerable knowledge of the rules, regulations, codes and ethics governing professional golf.
· Teaching and instruction related to popular golf techniques and golf etiquette.
· Knowledge of course conditions essential to prime golf play and principles and practices related to course management and supervision.
· Knowledge of golf terminology and scoring and handicap computation.
· Ability to plan, organize and direct play and instruction on a golf course.
· Communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
· Ability to teach technical golf skills to others.
· Maintain effective working relationships with employees, public officials and the general public.
· Some computer skills preferable.
Typical Physical/Mental Demands/Working Conditions
Incumbent of the position performs in a typical office setting with appropriate climate controls. Tasks require variety of physical activities, sitting or standing for extended periods while assisting customers and while operating assigned office equipment. Walking, standing, stooping, sitting, reaching and light lifting. Talking, hearing and seeing essential in the performance of daily tasks. Common eye, hand, finger dexterity exists. Mental application utilizes memory for details, verbal instructions, emotional stability and critical thinking. Considerable exposure to stress as a result of human behavior, including dealing with unpleasant, angry or discourteous individuals as part of the job requirements.
Condition of Employment
Employee may be required to work extended or irregular hours such as nights, weekends and holidays. Hurricane City employment can require employees to occasionally work outside of their normal job duties to assist with city sponsored events and/or projects. The employee is expected to forgo normal work duties to assist with the completion of these events and/or projects. In the event of an emergency, employees are required to work to provide for the safety and well-being of the public, including the delivery and restoration of vital services.
