About the Role

Hupp Electric Motors is seeking a skilled Industrial Controls & Electronic Service Technician to diagnose, repair, test, and commission industrial electronic equipment, with a primary focus on variable frequency drives (VFDs), PLCs, and related industrial control systems. This position combines in-shop repair work with field service at customer facilities and includes building, wiring, and testing industrial control panels to customer specifications. The ideal candidate enjoys solving complex technical problems, takes pride in producing high-quality control panels, and is comfortable working both independently and as part of a team.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot and repair AC and DC variable frequency drives.
  • Diagnose, test, and repair PLCs and industrial control systems.
  • Install, commission, and troubleshoot equipment at customer sites.
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals.
  • Build, wire, label, and test industrial control panels from electrical schematics and customer specifications.
  • Perform bench testing and functional testing of repaired equipment.
  • Use electrical test equipment such as multimeters, oscilloscopes, and insulation testers.
  • Document repairs, findings, and recommendations accurately.
  • Communicate professionally with customers regarding equipment issues and repair status.
  • Follow all company and customer safety procedures while working in the shop and in the field.
  • Assist with continuous improvement of repair processes and documentation.

Qualifications

  • Experience in industrial electronics, controls, automation, or a related field.
  • Experience troubleshooting and repairing VFDs, PLCs, HMIs, or industrial automation equipment.
  • Experience building and wiring industrial control panels.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.
  • Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills.
  • Proficiency with electronic test equipment.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel to customer locations.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work in industrial environments.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Allen-Bradley, Siemens, ABB, Yaskawa, Mitsubishi, Schneider Electric, or similar industrial control products.
  • Associate degree or technical training in Industrial Electronics, Electrical Technology, or a related field.
  • Field service experience in manufacturing or industrial facilities.
