Outside Sales - Storm & Insurance Restoration (Training Provided)

Huntsville Technical Services
Lutherville Timonium, MD Full Time
POSTED ON 9/17/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 1/14/2027

Absolute Roofing is hiring Outside Sales Representatives in Timonium, MD.

You will work residential neighborhoods after a storm has come through, inspect roofs for wind and hail damage, and walk homeowners through an insurance claim from the first conversation to the finished roof. No roofing experience is required. Several of the people selling for us now had never been on a roof before their first week.

What the job actually is

Most days you are outside and on your feet.

  • Working neighborhoods after a storm, introducing yourself to homeowners at the door
  • Inspecting roofs for wind and hail damage, which means getting on a ladder and walking a roof
  • Sitting down with a homeowner to explain what you found and how a claim works
  • Meeting the insurance adjuster at the property and walking the roof with them
  • Staying with the job through approval and installation, so the homeowner deals with one person the whole way

You are not handing the job off after a signature. You own it until the roof is on, and you are paid on the job rather than on the appointment, which is why the number at the end is larger than at a shop where three people have touched the same roof.

Michael Finkelstein, Regional VP: “Can you go out and knock on forty doors every day and have a few conversations with people? If you can do that five days a week, for a couple of months, I can make you as much money as you want, and I will work seven days a week myself to make sure you get there.”

There are no territories

Absolute does not carve the map into territories. No street is somebody else's, and you never give up a job because of where it sat. You still run out of your own office.

You will be on roofs

Most weeks you are up a ladder, and for many representatives it is daily. You are on the roof for fifteen to thirty minutes on a given appointment, and you are not doing the installation. If getting on a roof is not something you are willing to do, this is not the right role. If it is simply something you have never done, you will be trained and equipped for it properly before you go up.

What you earn

While you train: $1,500 when you complete our one-week training program.

On every agreement: $250, up front, on each one you sign.

A full first year: representatives who complete a full first year typically earn between $150,000 and $450,000. It varies by market.

Even a slow year: a representative who spends the first year finding their feet still lands nearer $120,000.

The top of the board: several of our representatives clear $900,000 a year and more, and do it consistently.

Before the first commission lands: between the training payment and the advance on each agreement, most representatives take home $2,000 to $5,000 a month while their first jobs are moving.

Beyond the jobs: we run monthly, quarterly and annual incentive programs across the company, carrying cash, trips and dinners on top of what you earn on the work.

How the commission works

Commission runs on a points system, and the goal in a given month is to reach fifteen points. Every day you make a sale earns you a point, and a sale on a weekend or a holiday earns a point and a half. You are at 30% of the profit on each job up to fifteen points, and 50% from there to the end of the month. It resets on the first, and established representatives are above fifteen points most months of the year.

Neither weekends nor holidays are a requirement. The extra half point is there for the people who choose to work them.

A typical job pays a representative $5,000 to $8,000. The middle figures above are the ones to plan around; the top of the board is a small number of people who have been doing this a long time.

When you get paid

You are paid commission on jobs that complete, and an insurance job takes time to move. A clean job runs four to six weeks from a signed contract in hand. You receive your full commission once the final check is received and the job closes out. The training payment lands at the end of your first week and the advance on each signed agreement begins as soon as you are selling, so there is money coming in while the first roofs are still moving.

Training

Training runs one week, and what it gives you is the tools rather than a calendar full of appointments. Nobody sits in an office booking your day for you. Most of your business is work you find yourself at the door, and Absolute trains you to do that properly.

You are taught how to identify storm damage, how the whole process works, and how to sell. It runs as a company-wide session with your own office's VP working beside you in the field, and by the end of that first week you are shadowing appointments rather than sitting in a room. After that you work alongside a seasoned veteran until you are running on your own.

Who tends to do well

  • People who have sold something face to face, whether that was solar, pest control, home services, automotive, retail, insurance, memberships or door to door
  • People coming out of work where the day was not scripted and the result depended on them: waiting tables and hospitality, landscaping and the trades, military, coaching
  • People who would rather be outside than at a desk, and who are not put off by a door they have not knocked on
  • Coachable people, who take a correction and change what they are doing because of it. It is the single trait that most separates the representatives who last from the ones who do not.

What the job requires

  • A valid driver's license and a reliable vehicle of your own
  • Comfort climbing a ladder and walking a roof
  • Willingness to work outdoors year-round

What happens after you apply

Your application is read by a person rather than filtered by software.

  • We call you within 24 hours, Monday through Friday
  • We set your interview on that call
  • One interview, covering the role, the territory and what you would earn
  • If it is the right fit, an offer, and your start details come to you in writing the same day you accept

Apply over a weekend or late on a Friday and you will hear from us Monday. On your first morning you report to your office's VP; bring a notebook and a pen, dress presentably, and leave room on your phone for the applications you will be using.

About Absolute Roofing

Absolute Roofing works across the Mid-Atlantic, the Northeast and the Midwest, from offices in Northern Virginia, Central Virginia, Maryland, New Jersey, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Connecticut and Michigan. We replace roofs damaged by wind and hail, and nearly all of that work runs through a homeowner's insurance policy, which makes us an insurance specialist as much as a roofing contractor.

Most of the homeowners we meet have never filed a claim like this one and are not looking forward to it. What they remember afterward is having had somebody beside them who knew how it worked, and that person is the representative. It is why the job is built the way it is, and why it pays what it does.

We are family owned, and we run the company that way. For many of the people selling for us, this is the first place they have worked where what they take home is decided by what they produce rather than by what somebody decided the job was worth.
