STATEMENT OF JOB:

The House Sound Engineer is an integral member of the Calderwood Pavilion’s production team, as well as being part of the Huntington’s Sound Department. The multi-use nature of the Calderwood Pavilion brings a mix of events to the facility, each with unique needs. This individual would work closely with The Huntington’s Sound Department to create and engineer top-tier plays and musicals, as well as directly with rental clients who all bring different types of productions and events to our building.

The House Sound Engineer operates, programs, and maintains audio & video systems and inventory for the Calderwood Pavilion. These systems include but are not limited to theatrical audio, video distribution, paging, intercom, and systems for access needs like assistive and descriptive listening. As a member of the Calderwood Staff, the Sound Engineer participates in facility coverage and maintenance responsibilities. The Sound Engineer is the most audience facing member of the Run Crew therefore a patient, tactful, and pleasant demeanor is necessary.

JOB DUTIES:

• Maintains and organizes audio & video equipment / systems, prepares and installs show specific gear, supervises freelance crew on occasion, and organizes workspaces in the Calderwood Pavilion, including lobbies, performance, and support areas.
• Programs & executes productions including live mixing, taking and executing work notes, and maintaining equipment to uphold the artistic intent of the production during the run.
• Demonstrates safe work practices regarding use of production systems, equipment, and work habits as well as instructing others in the safety practices.
• Provides assistance, guidance, training, and supervision to rental users in coordination with the Sound Team, Calderwood Pavilion Operations Supervisor, and other management staff.
• Assists with special events, projects, and rentals as required which may involve work not directly related to sound, such as setting up events; tables, chairs, seating risers, or production work in other departments.
• Opens and closes the facility and participates in facilities maintenance projects as required.
• Coordinates with the Calderwood Pavilion Staff, production staff, and rental users to formulate plans and schedules for the smooth and efficient running of the productions.
• Assists with Huntington productions produced at venues other than the Calderwood Pavilion as schedule allows.

REQUIREMENTS:

• 1-3 years of professional experience. 
• Must be familiar with the maintenance, operation, and installation of analog and digital sound equipment. Must be able to program and operate Yamaha CL Series and Behringer X32 Digital Consoles.
• Familiarity with QLab, Dante,  OSC, and MIDI and basic IP networking. An understanding of sound system setup and tuning are also necessary. Must be able to work in both Windows and Mac Operating Systems. Familiarity with analog and digital Clear-Com intercom systems (Encore and Freespeak)
• Possess the ability to read and execute sound plans and is familiar with theatrical stage rigging.
• Basic electronic skills such as troubleshooting, minor repairs, and soldering. 
• The nature of the job and the production facilities require the use of ladders and fall arrest equipment and can create a considerable hazard, requiring applicants to possess physical mobility and capability. Safety training is provided.
• Involves moving equipment weighing up to125 pounds. 
• As the main sound technician at the Calderwood Pavilion, must be able to work independently and manage time well.
