What are the responsibilities and job description for the Equipment Operator position at Huntington County Government?
Huntington County Highway Department is accepting applications for an Equipment Operator II.
Responsibilities include driving various types of trucks and equipment in hauling materials, plowing snow, and maintaining county roads, ditches and right-of-ways. A successful candidate must have working knowledge of and skill in operation of using a variety of trucks and equipment including dump truck, bucket truck, asphalt paver, front-end loader, excavator, crane, backhoe, snow plow, stone chipper, compaction roller, skid loader, grader, mower, and jack hammer. With ability to affix and properly use all attachments. Some mechanical experience working with a variety of equipment and vehicles preferred.
Duties also include working with road materials to assist with sealing, cleaning or patching roads, as well as removing weeds, brush and storm-damaged trees from right-of-ways, ditches and guardrails. Other responsibilities include working on storm drainage, including replacing drainage pipe/tile, exposing utility lines, cleaning drainage sites, and loading/unloading pipe. Duties will vary from day to day depending on road project assignments and weather.
Candidate must be 18 years old, have a valid Class B CDL driver’s license, and have a high school diploma or GED. Salary is up to $27.04 per hour depending on experience and qualifications.
Work hours are 7:00 am - 3:00 pm, Monday - Friday. Candidate must be open to working extended hours, evenings, and weekends in response to emergencies from off-duty status as needed.
