Hunterdon Helpline serves as a vital community resource, connecting individuals in crisis—including older adults, individuals experiencing homelessness, persons with disabilities, and others facing urgent needs—with essential programs and services. We are a mission-driven nonprofit dedicated to delivering compassionate, timely, and effective assistance across Hunterdon County and beyond.
Position Overview:
The Executive Director of Programs and Services reports directly to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and plays a key leadership role in the day-to-day operations, program management, and strategic growth of the organization. This position provides oversight to direct service programs, supervises program staff, supports development efforts, and ensures alignment with the organization’s mission and strategic goals.
This individual will collaborate closely with the CEO, Board of Directors, funders, community partners, and internal stakeholders to advance agency priorities through innovative program delivery, fundraising, marketing, volunteer engagement, operational oversight, and regulatory compliance.
Key Responsibilities:
Program Oversight & Service Delivery
- Administer comprehensive case management services, including intake, assessment, service coordination, and follow-up.
- Provide leadership for the 24/7 helpline and client communications to ensure responsive, high-quality service delivery.
- Design, implement, and evaluate social service programs aligned with community needs and agency goals.
- Ensure compliance with program standards, funding guidelines, and service benchmarks.
- Analyze program data to assess outcomes and drive improvements.
Staff & Volunteer Leadership
- Supervise and support program staff with a focus on performance development and team collaboration.
- Lead recruitment, onboarding, and training processes for both staff and volunteers.
- Foster an inclusive, positive work culture and build a strong, engaged volunteer program.
Development, Marketing & Communications
- Support fundraising efforts through donor outreach, event planning, and grant writing.
- Collaborate on external communications and marketing strategies to promote the organization and its services.
- Represent Hunterdon Helpline at community events, public forums, and collaborative initiatives.
Operations & Compliance Management
- Oversee daily operations, including building and facility maintenance, ensuring a clean, safe, and functional environment.
- Manage IT systems in partnership with consultants or vendors, ensuring system reliability and security.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, labor laws, and internal HR and safety policies.
- Assist in maintaining organizational policies, contracts, and vendor relationships.
Strategic & Financial Management
- Align program and operational efforts with the organization’s strategic goals.
- Monitor and manage program budgets, ensuring cost efficiency and financial accountability.
- Support the CEO and Board of Directors with reporting, planning, and strategic initiatives.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Human Services, Public Administration, Nonprofit Management, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
- Minimum of 5 years of leadership experience in nonprofit, social services, or community-based settings.
- Demonstrated success in program development, grant writing, budget management, and team supervision.
- Experience in facilities oversight, IT coordination, and regulatory compliance is highly desirable.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with a professional and adaptable communication style.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and familiarity with case management or CRM systems.
- Knowledge of Hunterdon County’s human service landscape is a plus.
