Engineering & Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Manager will lead engineering initiatives, capital projects, continuous improvement efforts, and environmental, health, and safety programs across both manufacturing facilities.
This highly visible leadership role is responsible for driving operational excellence, improving manufacturing processes, leading capital investments, strengthening safety culture, and developing scalable systems that support long-term business growth.
While EHS oversight is an important component of this position, the primary focus is engineering leadership, operational improvement, and project execution rather than a traditional compliance-only EHS role. The ideal candidate is equally comfortable managing capital projects, optimizing manufacturing processes, leading continuous improvement initiatives, conducting safety audits, and partnering with executive leadership on strategic operational initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Engineering & Capital Projects

• Lead capital improvement (CAPEX) projects from planning through implementation and commissioning.
• Develop project scopes, timelines, budgets, ROI analyses, and project schedules.
• Manage contractors, engineering firms, equipment vendors, and project resources.
• Coordinate equipment installations, startup activities, and facility improvements.
• Lead process engineering initiatives to improve safety, quality, productivity, and equipment reliability.
• Troubleshoot manufacturing processes and equipment while identifying long-term solutions.
• Partner with Operations, Quality, Technical Services, and Maintenance on new product implementation, process improvements, and automation initiatives.
• Develop and maintain engineering documentation including SOPs, work instructions, equipment records, and Bills of Material (BOMs).
• Build and maintain a multi-year capital improvement roadmap.

Operational Excellence & Continuous Improvement

• Lead Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives across both facilities.
• Identify operational bottlenecks and implement process improvements that increase productivity and reduce waste.
• Facilitate root cause investigations and corrective action programs.
• Develop operational KPIs, dashboards, and performance reporting systems.
• Improve workflow efficiency and collaboration across manufacturing, maintenance, quality, and administrative teams.
• Standardize best practices and drive consistency between both manufacturing locations.
• Support long-term operational scalability through process optimization and organizational improvements.

Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS)

• Lead company-wide environmental, health, and safety programs across both facilities.
• Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, DOT, and all applicable environmental and safety regulations.
• Conduct safety audits, risk assessments, incident investigations, and root cause analyses.
• Implement corrective and preventive actions to reduce workplace risk.
• Lead safety training programs and support employee engagement through safety committees.
• Manage workers' compensation coordination and return-to-work programs in partnership with Human Resources.
• Oversee environmental reporting, permitting, SDS management, hazard communication, and regulatory inspections.
• Foster a proactive safety culture throughout both organizations.

Systems & Organizational Development

• Develop and improve standard operating procedures (SOPs), operational documentation, and process standards.
• Support ERP system optimization and work order management improvements.
• Strengthen project management processes, reporting systems, and organizational accountability.
• Improve knowledge transfer, training systems, and operational documentation.

Leadership & Collaboration

• Partner closely with Operations leadership to execute strategic operational initiatives.
• Build strong cross-functional relationships with Production, Maintenance, Engineering, Quality, Technical Services, and Leadership teams.
• Influence organizational change through technical expertise, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
• Help align processes, systems, and operational standards across both manufacturing facilities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Environmental Health & Safety, Industrial Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field.
• 7 years of progressive engineering, manufacturing, operations, or EHS leadership experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Demonstrated experience leading capital projects, process improvements, and Lean Manufacturing initiatives.
• Strong knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and environmental regulations.
• Experience managing engineering projects from concept through implementation.
• Knowledge of root cause analysis, continuous improvement methodologies, and operational excellence principles.
• Excellent project management, organizational, and leadership skills.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate across multiple departments and locations.
• Experience within chemical manufacturing or process manufacturing is strongly preferred.

Preferred Qualifications

• Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma certification.
• Experience with capital budgeting and ROI analysis.
• Knowledge of process safety management (PSM) and manufacturing automation.
• Experience with ERP systems and manufacturing performance metrics.
• Professional Engineering (PE), Certified Safety Professional (CSP), or related certifications are a plus.
