Summary: The Medical Lab Technician (MLT)/Technologist (MT) is responsible for performing various in-house testing while ensuring that all patients receive quality care within the lab. In collaboration with the Lab and Radiology Manager, the MLT/MT ensures they are in compliance with all federal grants, OSHA, CLIA, and Hunter Health Clinic (HHC) policies and procedures.
Essential Functions:
- Performs in-house testing of urinalysis, hematology, microbiology, serology, and chemistry.
- Performs blood draws to obtain samples from patients per the lab orders requested through the Electronic Health Record (EHR).
- Processes and orders tests from outside labs from the EHR.
- Recognizes and interprets abnormal lab results as needed.
- Assists with maintaining inventory and the ordering of supplies for the department.
- Maintains complete logs and/or electronic records for all tests and pap smears.
- Assists with the creation and implementation of new testing procedures, as needed.
- Assists with training of care team employees and new lab employees.
- Collaborates with the Lab and Radiology Manager if any concerns or problems arise in the department.
- Travels when necessary to meet operational needs.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- An associate’s degree in Medical Laboratory Technician or bachelor’s in Medical Laboratory Technology is required.
- Medical Laboratory Technician or Clinical Laboratory Technician Certification is required.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) is required, within 30 days of hire.
- 2 or more years of experience in a healthcare laboratory setting is preferred.
