What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Accountant position at Hunter Hamilton?
We’re partnering with a well-established and growing construction company in St. Louis seeking a Staff Accountant / Senior Staff Accountant to join its accounting team.
This is a newly created position with strong long-term growth potential. The person hired will work closely with the Accounting Manager, take ownership of key accounting functions, and eventually become her primary backup.
Key Responsibilities:
- Own AR, progress billing, and construction invoicing
- Support WIP reporting and project financial reviews
- Review GL activity, AP coding, accruals, and period cutoff
- Assist with month-end close and fixed assets
- Track change orders and job-cost activity
- Work directly with project managers on billing and WIP
- Cross-train across AP and payroll
- Help improve accounting processes and systems
What We’re Looking For:
- Staff or Senior Staff Accountant experience
- Construction accounting experience is a MUST
- WIP and progress billing experience
- Strong GL and month-end close knowledge
- Solid GAAP and overall accounting fundamentals
- Advanced Excel skills, particularly VLOOKUPs and formulas
- Strong attention to detail and deadline urgency
- Ability to understand how AP, AR, payroll, and billing impact the overall financial picture
Payroll and ComputerEase experience are NOT required. Both can be trained for someone with strong accounting fundamentals and systems aptitude.
A bachelor’s degree is preferred but not required. Practical accounting knowledge and hands-on experience are more important.
