Position Overview:
The Scale Operator is responsible for accurately weighing, recording, and verifying all inbound and outbound loads of logs, chips, residuals, and other woodyard materials. This position ensures accurate accounting and data entry of wood deliveries, proper documentation for truck drivers, and smooth traffic flow in and out of the woodyard. The Scale Operator serves as a key point of communication between truck drivers, yard operations, and wood procurement staff.
Key Responsibilities:
- Weigh inbound and outbound log trucks, chip trucks, and trailers using certified truck scales.
- Accurately enter load information into the computer system (species, tract information, producer, contractor, destination, etc.).
- Issue load tickets, receipts, and required paperwork to drivers.
- Communicate with drivers to provide instructions, direct traffic, and ensure proper flow through the yard.
- Coordinate with yard personnel (including loader operators) to match loads with correct staging and processing areas.
- Maintain accurate daily scale logs, electronic records, and reports.
- Assist with end-of-day reports reconciliations of wood volume and inventory.
- Answer phones, greet drivers, and provide basic customer service.
- Maintain organized scale house records and a clean and tidy work area.
- Follow all company safety practices.
- All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy with numbers and written information.
- Basic computer skills (data entry, ticketing systems, email).
- Good communication and customer-service skills when interacting with drivers and equipment operators.
- Reliable, punctual, and ability to work independently.
Requirements:
Ability to sit or stand for extended periods. Ability to climb in and out of machinery safely. Capable of occasionally lifting up to 50 pounds. Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions with regular exposure to dust, noise and outdoor elements. May require weekend or evening hours based on operational needs.

Pay: $14.00 - $16.00 per hour
