Position Overview:
We are seeking a driven and adaptable Procurement Forester responsible for managing the acquisition of timber and forest products to meet organizational goals and ensure sustainable forest management practices. This role involves identifying and securing timber sources, negotiating contracts, collaborating with landowners, logging contractors, mills and regulatory agencies. Ensure procurement activities align with environmental standards, legal requirements, and company policies, while optimizing cost-efficiency and supply chain performance. This position may be based out of our Youngsville, Sanford or Pittboro office.
Key Responsibilities:
- Identify and assess timber resources for procurement, ensuring compliance with sustainable forestry practices.
- Develop and maintain relationships with landowners, logging contractors, and mills.
- Negotiate and manage contracts for timber procurement, including pricing, delivery terms, and quality standards.
- Monitor and evaluate timber supply and market conditions to make informed procurement decisions.
- Ensure adherence to environmental regulations and industry best practices in all procurement activities.
- Collaborate with internal teams to align procurement strategies with overall organizational goals.
- Prepare and maintain accurate records and reports related to procurement activities.
- All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in forestry or related field.
- Prior experience in timber procurement, forest management or related area strongly preferred.
- Ability to analyze data and make informed decisions based on market and resource conditions.
- Strong communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to manage multiple accounts and projects across diverse business sectors.
- Self-motivated, goal-oriented, and adaptable to changing priorities.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and relevant software and tools for managing procurement activities
- Willingness to travel as needed to visit clients, job sites, or industry events.
Requirements:
Ability to sit or stand for extended periods. Capable of lifting and moving up to 50 pounds. Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions with regular exposure to dust and outdoor elements. May require weekend or evening hours based on operational needs.
