The Role
The Assistant Manager wants to help build something meaningful in our Skokie community. You'll work closely with the owner to manage daily operations, train new team members, and create an exceptional experience for every neighbor who walks through our doors. This role is about creating an environment where guests feel welcomed, team members feel supported, and the little details never get overlooked.
What You'll Do
- Lead Daily Operations: Lead opening procedures and ensure the shop is fully prepared for service each morning, overseeing daily prep, inventory, and operational readiness.
- Set the Standard: Coach, train, and support team members through real-time feedback, help onboard new hires, reinforce Hummingbird's hospitality and quality standards, and support hiring efforts as the team grows.
- Quality & Execution: Set the standard for food quality, cleanliness, organization, and food safety by working alongside the team at every station from bowls and smoothies to the register, leading by example and helping the team prioritize during busy shifts .
- Guest Experience: Address guest concerns with professionalism, empathy, and urgency, and use feedback to improve operations, training, and the overall guest experience.
What We're Looking For
- A Leader: Previous experience leading a team in a café, restaurant, or fast-casual environment
- A Coach: You enjoy developing people, giving feedback, and helping others build confidence.
- A Problem Solver: You naturally prioritize, stay calm under pressure, and don't wait to be told what needs to happen next.
- Food Service Experience: You have kitchen operations or food prep experience. Food Manager Certification is required.
- Passion for Growth: You have a passion for hospitality, wellness, and are excited to be part of a growing neighborhood business.
