What are the responsibilities and job description for the Per Diem Transportation Dispatcher (51532) position at Humboldt Senior Resource Center?

This position is a "Per Diem" or "As Needed" position. There is no schedule or guaranteed hours for this position, as hours are based on staffing needs of the department.

JOB SUMMARY: The Transportation Dispatcher is responsible for day-to-day organization, routing, and problem solving for transportation of participants to and from HSRC day centers, HSRC clinic appointments, outside medical appointments, and other program approved transportation and/ or delivery requests.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESONSIBILITIES:

  1. Utilizes program specific EHR and scheduling software to access transportation requests and document transportation related information.
  2. Directs and monitors daily requests, schedules drivers, and assigns vehicles to ensure daily coverage of all routes and appointments.
  3. Coordinates transportation services for participants to and from scheduled destinations by utilizing approved routing software.
  4. Coordinates daily delivery services including but not limited to meals, durable medical equipment, samples, and medications.
  5. Coordinates and schedules outside transportation vendors by facilitating information and back-up service when needed.
  6. Maintains accurate computer dispatch and appointment records in routing software to ensure smooth and accurate communication with Transportation Drivers.
  7. Ensures a smooth delivery of service by problem solving and coordination with representatives of agency programs, medical offices, caregivers, and participants. Collaborates and proactively communicates across departments regarding any event that may disrupt services.
  8. Communicates all relevant details of driving assignments to drivers to ensure proper execution of services, including informing drivers of inclement weather, road construction, and other possible hazards.
  9. Assists drivers with routing directions and direct drivers to perform additional services when required.
  10. Responds to urgent calls and facilitates response to urgent driver needs. Assigns replacement busses in coordination with Transportation Supervisor when there is a problem enroute.
  11. Escalates unresolved issues to management as appropriate. Informing of any issues out of the ordinary that may need additional assistance.
  12. Maintains periodic contact with personnel to ensure completion of assigned duties.
  13. Informs appropriate agency programs of changes in participant conditions.
  14. Provides support for the Transportation Coordinator as needed.
  15. Participates in program-level meetings as requested.
  16. Follows agency and programmatic policies for incidents, accidents, grievances, and other reportable events.
  17. Acts in a manner consistent with agency values.
  18. Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:

LICENSES OR CERTIFICATES:

  1. No license or certificates are required for this position.

EDUCATION &/or EXPERIENCE:

  1. High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
  2. One (1) year scheduling and/or routing experience preferred.
  3. One (1) year experience working with elderly or frail individuals preferred. 
  4. Knowledge of DOT & FMSCA Compliance preferred.

 

PRE-SCREENING REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Requires clearance of a DOJ and FBI criminal history background check.
  2. Pre-employment physical, and PPD skin test (TB screening).
  3. COVID-19 and Influenza (flu) vaccines preferred.

  17. Strong basic computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, and Excel applications). Ability to use and maintain database software programs.
  18. Basic knowledge of computers and web-based applications such as timekeeping, training, and email programs.

 

SUPERVISORY REQUIREMENTS:

  1. This position does not have supervisory requirements.
