Job Title: Operating Room Circulator RN

Location: Plantation, Fl.

Status: Full-Time, Monday to Friday (No Weekends, No On-Call), Hours may vary

Reports To: ASC Administrator/Director of Nursing

Position Summary

The Operating Room Circulator RN is responsible for the delivery and documentation of patient care during the intra-operative period. The RN will assess and address patients' physiological and emotional needs, developing and implementing individualized care plans. This position requires expertise in orthopedic and spine surgeries, ensuring adherence to established policies, procedures, and standards of practice for perioperative nursing. The RN will facilitate collaboration with the surgical team, advocate for patient safety, and uphold high standards of care.

Qualifications

Education/Certification:

  • Graduate from an accredited school of nursing.
  • Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state.
  • Current BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications required.
  • CNOR certification a plus.

Experience

  • Operating room experience required.
  • Specialized experience in orthopedic and spine surgeries required.

Equipment/Technology

  • Familiarity with orthopedic and spine surgical equipment and instruments.
  • Basic computer skills.

Duties And Responsibilities

Pre-Operative Duties:

  • Perform preoperative assessments and develop nursing care plans.
  • Prepare the operating room with appropriate equipment and supplies for surgeries.

Intra-Operative Responsibilities

  • Ensure aseptic technique and sterile field maintenance during all procedures.
  • Assist in positioning patients for optimal surgical access and safety.
  • Handle specialized instruments and implants required for orthopedic and spine procedures.
  • Monitor patients’ vital signs, consciousness level, and fluid balance during procedures.
  • Document care and intraoperative events accurately.
  • Efficient, non-wasteful, cost-conscious use of supplies.

Post-Operative Duties

  • Oversee patient transfer to the post-anesthesia care unit (PACU), providing detailed handover information.
  • Evaluate patient outcomes and participate in postoperative debriefs.

Patient Advocacy

  • Act as a patient advocate, upholding patient rights and addressing unique care needs across all age groups.

Collaboration And Compliance

  • Work closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and surgical technologists to optimize patient outcomes.
  • Adhere to facility policies, safety protocols, and infection control standards.

Specialized Focus

  • Maintain proficiency in orthopedic and spine surgical techniques, including total joint replacement, spinal fusion, and minimally invasive procedures.
  • Ensure availability and functionality of orthopedic and spine surgical instruments and implants.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Perform surgical counts, handle specimens appropriately, and assist with room turnover.
  • Possibility of being assigned an additional supportive role (i.e: Infection Control RN, Process Improvement, Safety Officer, etc..)
  • Daily callbacks and chart checks, maintaining of logs associated to equipment and assigned area
  • Provide coverage in Pre-op/PACU areas as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the overall functionality of the center.

  • Engage in continuing education and maintain professional competency.

Physical Demands

  • Requires standing for extended periods, lifting equipment, and assisting with patient positioning.
  • Exposure to a moderate noise level and potential biohazards.
  • Must be able to lift and move objects up to 50 pounds.

  • ASC operating hours: Monday through Friday (no weekends, no on-call).
  • Observance of major holidays.
