Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region (HSPPR)

Are you detail-oriented, highly organized, and passionate about supporting animal welfare and public safety behind the scenes? HSPPR is seeking an Evidence & Records Technician to play a vital role in ensuring the integrity, accuracy, and security of enforcement records and evidence. This position is essential to the success of animal law enforcement efforts and the protection of animals and our community.

Why This Role Matters

At HSPPR, our mission is simple but powerful: to offer compassionate care to animals, support safe communities, and provide socially conscious sheltering.

As an Evidence & Records Technician, you help bring that mission to life by ensuring every piece of evidence-from Body Worn Camera footage to case documentation-is handled with precision, care, and accountability. Your work directly supports officers, investigators, prosecutors, and courts, helping ensure cases are well-documented, compliant, and positioned for successful outcomes.

What You'll Do

In this role, you'll serve as the backbone of our enforcement documentation and evidence management system. Key responsibilities include:

  • Evidence & Records Management
    • Collect, process, catalog, store, track, and release physical and digital evidence
    • Maintain secure, organized enforcement records, including reports, photos, and medical documentation
    • Ensure strict chain-of-custody compliance from intake through final disposition
  • Digital Evidence & BWC Management
    • Review, redact, label, and manage Body Worn Camera (BWC) footage
    • Ensure compliance with evidentiary standards, privacy laws, and Colorado public records requirements
    • Troubleshoot basic BWC issues and support staff with training and usage
  • Case & Court Support
    • Prepare and deliver evidence and case materials to courts, prosecutors, and authorized partners
    • Assist officers and investigators with case file preparation and documentation review
  • Public Records & Compliance
    • Process public records requests, including identifying responsive materials and applying lawful redactions
    • Maintain databases, logs, and tracking systems for all records and evidence activities
    • Conduct audits and inventories to ensure accountability and compliance
  • Collaboration & Communication
    • Work closely with law enforcement partners, courts, veterinarians, and internal teams
    • Communicate professionally and maintain strict confidentiality at all times
    • Identify opportunities to improve processes, accuracy, and efficiency

What You Bring

  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy and integrity
  • Ability to manage large volumes of digital files and sensitive information
  • Knowledge of or experience with digital evidence systems, law enforcement technology, or video management (preferred)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Sound judgment and professionalism in handling confidential information
  • A valid Colorado driver's license with an insurable record

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in animal care and control, law enforcement, or a related field
  • OR an associate degree or higher in a relevant field in place of experience

Work Environment & Schedule

  • Full-time, five 8-hour shifts per week
  • May include evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • Primarily office-based with occasional travel to courts, ALE offices, or training sites
  • Regular interaction with animals and potential exposure to allergens and environmental elements

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to sit, stand, and move throughout the workday
  • Lift up to 40 pounds occasionally
  • Perform tasks that may involve bending, reaching, or handling equipment
