Job description:
The Welcome Center Associate is the first point of contact for all visitors to the shelter and plays a vital role in creating a welcoming, compassionate, and professional experience for the public. This position sets the tone for each interaction by offering clear communication, emotional support, and guidance to adopters, Good Samaritans, donors, volunteers, and community members seeking assistance.
The ideal candidate is calm, empathetic, and organized, with the ability to navigate emotionally charged situations while maintaining boundaries and following established policies. The Welcome Center Associate helps ensure the shelter operates smoothly by directing visitors appropriately, supporting adoption processes, and upholding the mission and values of the organization.
This is a part-time position (around 24 hours per week) with the Humane Society of Summit County. In November 2024, we relocated to our brand-new, state-of-the-art shelter at 752 Portage Trail West, Cuyahoga Falls, OH.
Key Responsibilities
- Greet all visitors promptly and professionally, creating a welcoming first impression
- Listen to visitor needs and direct them to the appropriate department or resources
- Provide accurate information about shelter services, policies, and next steps
- Support adoption processes by assisting with basic documentation
- Accept donations and provide appropriate acknowledgment when applicable
- Answer and route phone calls and general inquiries
- Help maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming lobby and front desk area
- De-escalate tense or emotional situations using calm, respectful communication
- Follow safety, confidentiality, and animal welfare protocols at all times
- Represent the organization’s mission and values in all public-facing interactions
Qualifications
- Strong customer service and communication skills
- Ability to remain calm and professional in emotionally charged situations
- Basic computer skills and ability to learn new systems
- Reliable, punctual, and team-oriented
- Previous customer service, hospitality, or animal welfare experience preferred
Pay: $15.00 per hour
Expected hours: 24.0 per week
