What are the responsibilities and job description for the Shelter Animal Care Specialist position at Humane Society of Pagosa Springs?
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Animal Care Specialist to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong passion for animal care and welfare, with experience in handling various types of animals. You will play a crucial role in ensuring the health and well-being of the animals in our care while providing exceptional service to our clients.
We have two options PT 8:00-12:00 4-5 days a week. FT 30 hours per week
Job Highlights
Provide daily care and enrichment for animals, including feeding and exercising.
Provide the highest levels of customer service and represent the HSPS animal shelter and our work in a positive informed manner at all times.
Monitor the health and behavior of animals, reporting any concerns.
Maintain cleanliness and organization of animal housing areas, including kennels.
Represent HSPS and assist in marketing and promotion of our animals.
Engage with potential dog and cat adopters.
Handle animals safely and effectively during routine tasks and emergencies.
Support training programs for dogs and other animals as needed.
Perform heavy lifting when required for animal handling or equipment management.
Experience
Preferred qualifications include:
Experience with dog and cat handling.
Strong Customer Service skills to interact positively with pet owners, volunteers, and visitors.
Potential for higher starting pay with certified/professional Dog Training experience and/or shelter experience.
