What are the responsibilities and job description for the Medical Services Lead position at Humane Society Brand?
The Humane Society of Tampa Bay is looking for a dynamic and experienced individual to oversee the medical services departments at our Pinellas shelter. The ideal candidate will have experience working in the animal field as well as experience leading a team. This position requires excellent customer service and communication skills, the ability to coach different teams and provide constructive feedback as well as the skill of looking at ways to streamline processes while ensuring unity amongst all teams and departments. Applicants must be flexible and be able to multitask. Veterinary Technician skills and shelter experience is strongly preferred. This position is full time and will include weekends and/or holidays.
Under direction from the Director of Customer Relations and the CEO, this position is responsible managing/overseeing the daily workflow for: intake, exam and surgery within medical services.
- Provides guidance to staff on a daily basis.
- Provide excellent customer service.
- Manages the animal inventory.
- Act as an additional tech support to exam or surgery as needed.
- Managing of technicians/coordinators/intake/exam managers
- Participate in performance assessments and the development and execution of employee improvement plans.
- Providing day-to-day oversight and on-going feedback to staff and managers.
- Act as a liaison between Intake staff, Shelter team, doctors and management to promote effective communication to prevent and resolve concerns.
- Assisting with the management, delegation and prioritizing for all Medical Services staff regarding the workflow within the department.
- Provide shelter staff with instructions and follow up care of animals.
- Monitor staff periodically throughout the day, encourage productivity, discourage behaviors that may be detrimental to the positive atmosphere of the work environment. Monitor compliance to job descriptions and “to do” lists. Ensure adherence to policies and procedures in accordance with the employee handbook.
- Ensures that staff is providing quality people care at all times to clients as well as with co-workers.
- Helps keep surveillance of animals for disease and temperament and reports concerns to Shelter Veterinarian or Director of Shelter Operations accordingly.
- EXPERIENCE as a Vet Tech STRONGLY preferred.
- Must have 3-5 years of experience in a supervisory technician role or a Head Veterinary Technician role or leadership role.
- Computer skills required Microsoft office
- High School diploma or equivalent.
