This role is a cornerstone of our clinical operations—supporting surgical and wellness services, shelter animal health, and providing compassionate patient care from intake to discharge. As a key team member, you will help ensure every animal we treat receives safe, appropriate, and quality care.
What You’ll Do :
Surgery & Wellness Care
- Triage patients and communicate concerns to the veterinarian
- Provide hands-on medical care throughout surgical & wellness procedures
- Assist veterinarians during surgery and wellness exams
- Maintain drug logs, databases, and accurate patient records
- Administer vaccines, tests, medications, and treatments
- Maintain clean, sterile workspaces and appropriate medical inventory
Dental & Radiology Services
- Perform anesthesia monitoring & reporting
- Place IV catheters
- Perform dental scaling & polishing
- Capture high-quality digital radiographs
Shelter Medicine & Animal Wellness
- Monitor overall health of shelter & foster animals
- Administer appropriate treatments and medical care
- Maintain accurate medical records
- Maintain a safe, healthy, properly supplied shelter environment
- Ensure adoption-ready animals are fully vaccinated, sterilized, and microchipped
- Stay informed on current animal welfare practices
What You Bring
Education & Qualifications
- Indiana RVT license (or equivalent veterinary assistant experience)
- Familiarity with Humane Alliance protocols
- Commitment to ongoing professional development and CE
Animal Handling & Care
- Comfortable working with up to 75 animals per day
- Ability to interpret animal body language and use safe restraint techniques
- Ability to identify when assistance is needed & ask for help
- Ability to stay calm and physically responsive when handling fractious animals
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand or sit for 8 hours
- Ability to repeatedly lift 50 lbs
- Good fine motor skills, vision, hearing, balance, and mobility
- Ability to kneel, bend, climb, and navigate tight spaces
- Ability to work in varying environmental temperatures

Work Environment & Exposure

Pay: $16.50 - $18.50 per hour
