Position Summary: 

The Welcoming Schools Manager leads core program operations and project management duties and oversees key aspects of HRC Schools initiatives, including school board advocacy, education policy research and analysis, and the Safe Schools Champion Initiative. The Manager oversees and executes conferences, webinars, communications, invoicing, and other program activities, ensuring projects move effectively from planning through implementation.

 

This position requires a highly organized, proactive project manager who can independently manage multiple priorities, build and maintain effective systems, collaborate across teams, and take ownership for delivering high-quality work accurately, efficiently, and on schedule.

 

Position Responsibilities: 

School Boards and Policy

?     Monitor and analyze emerging local, state and federal education policy developments affecting LGBTQ students and educators.

?     Track and document school board activity, elections, and emerging policy trends. 

?     Produce and disseminate internal weekly education policy newsletter.

?     Build and maintain tracking system for school board races target list including research on prospective candidates and local conditions.

?     Manage the Safe School Champion application process, including application review workflows, data management and reporting.

?     Collaborate on school policy and best practice resource development designed for school stakeholders.

?     Contribute subject matter expertise and project management support to larger school and youth-focused policy initiatives.

 

Welcoming Schools Program Operations

 

?     Manage and coordinate invoices to outside vendors and payments to facilitators and consultants.

?     Serve as a primary point of contact for inquiries related to Welcoming Schools programs, ensuring responsive, timely stakeholder engagement.  

?     Prepare regular data reports for staff, directors, and board members as requested.

?     Support on- and off-site meetings and events involving Welcoming Schools staff and project collaborators.

?     Coordinate travel for National Facilitators and consultants.

?     Manage inventory and requests for promotional materials.

?     Own the Welcoming Schools conference calendar and ensure timely coordination of all conference-related deadlines, including proposals, exhibitor requirements, shipping, and logistics.

?     Produce and manage the end-to-end process of internal and external newsletters.

?     Manage operational planning and execution for Webinars, Peer to Peer Series and other programmatic events.

 

Position Qualifications: 

?      At least two years of equivalent work experience required with a focus in administrative, education and/or project management.  

?      Strong understanding of LGBTQ issues as well as demonstrated knowledge of PreK-12 and higher education policy and school governance.

?      Strong work ethic, self-motivation, and the demonstrated ability to work independently and to prioritize competing tasks.

?      Outstanding organizational, task management and time management skills required.

?      Demonstrated ability to work well under pressure, ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and manage work under tight deadlines.

?      Strong skill set with Microsoft 365 applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, Teams), Google Apps (Docs, Sheets, and Drive) and Zoom Conferencing.  

?      Preferred experience with Monday.Com.

?      Effective communicator, both verbally and in writing.
