Position Summary:
Our client, a global, multi-site retail and consumer services organization, is seeking a Director of Training to lead and modernize their enterprise learning function. This role reports to the VP of Talent Management and is based on-site at the company’s office in the greater Boston area.
This is a high-impact leadership role focused on building and scaling training programs across a large, multi-state retail footprint, supporting both field operations and corporate populations.
Absolute Minimum Must-Have’s / Experience / Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree in L&D, Organizational Development, I/O Psychology, HR, or related field preferred
- 10 years of experience in learning & development, with at least 5 years in leadership roles
- Deep experience supporting retail or high-volume frontline workforce training environments
- Strong expertise in adult learning principles, instructional design, and diverse learning methodologies
- Proven track record of modernizing learning programs through technology and innovative delivery methods
- Experience with LMS/LXP platforms and learning technologies
- Demonstrated ability to scale training programs across large, distributed organizations
- Strategic mindset with the ability to translate business priorities into scalable training initiatives
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities with experience measuring training effectiveness
- Knowledge of performance management, talent development, and organizational dynamics
- Experience leading through change and operating in complex, fast-paced environments
- Strong program and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple initiatives
- Ability to build structure and processes in ambiguous or evolving environments
Key Responsibilities:
What You’ll Do
- Serve as the subject matter expert for training and development across retail field operations and corporate functions
- Develop and execute a comprehensive training strategy aligned with operational priorities and business goals
- Oversee training programs for frontline associates and field leadership, including onboarding, compliance, and leadership development
- Partner closely with Operations leadership to identify performance gaps and translate them into effective training solutions
- Drive consistency across a large, multi-site footprint through standardized, scalable learning programs
- Design and implement leadership development programs to build a strong internal talent pipeline
- Modernize the training function by transitioning to more engaging, technology-enabled learning experiences
- Lead the evaluation, selection, and implementation of learning platforms and tools
- Ensure training supports key operational initiatives and evolving business needs
- Enhance leadership capability in areas such as performance management, coaching, and employee engagement
- Support corporate training initiatives, including onboarding and professional development programs
- Partner with HR and business leaders to address capability gaps and support organizational effectiveness
- Foster a culture of continuous learning across both field and corporate populations
