What are the responsibilities and job description for the Direct Support Professional (DSP) - Clinton County position at Hulme Resources Inc.?
Position Summary
We are seeking an engaging, creative, and proactive Direct Support Professional (DSP) to join our team in a part-time role. This position focuses on Community Networking and Individual Skills Development (ISD) for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD).
This position focuses on skill-building and social connections — no personal care (ADLs) or medication administration is required.
Your goal will be to coach individuals directly within their natural environments — such as their homes, neighborhoods, local stores, public transit routes, and community centers — helping them master the practical, real-world skills needed to live more independently and build meaningful community connections.
Key Responsibilities
- Natural-Environment Skill Building (ISD): Hands-on coaching to build self-sufficiency where individuals live and spend time — budgeting and making purchases, planning meals and grocery shopping, navigating public transit and safe pedestrian routes, and real-life problem-solving and emergency preparedness.
- Community Relationship Building: Identify local clubs, volunteer sites, recreational groups, and social venues that match the individual's interests, creating opportunities for genuine relationships.
- Social & Advocacy Coaching: Support individuals in practicing communication skills, social etiquette, and self-advocacy so they can confidently direct their own lives and community activities.
- Transportation: Safely transport and accompany individuals during skill-building outings and community engagement activities.
- DMH Documentation: Maintain clear, accurate daily progress notes tracking ISP goal achievements, skill milestones, and shift activities in compliance with Missouri DMH standards.
- Positive Supports: Apply Missouri DMH-approved Positive Behavior Support (PBS) strategies to foster confidence and ensure safety.
Minimum Requirements (MO DMH Compliant)
- Education: High School Diploma or equivalent (GED/HiSET).
- Age: Must be at least 18 years old.
- Background Checks: Clean screening through the Missouri Family Care Safety Registry (FCSR), including criminal background, child abuse/neglect, and employee disqualification list checks.
- Driver's License & Insurance: Valid driver's license, reliable personal vehicle, clean driving record, and current auto insurance (required for transporting individuals).
- Mindset: Patient, creative, and skilled at teaching and mentoring rather than "doing tasks for" the individual.
Required Training & Certifications
Paid training provided upon hire
- Missouri DMH Core Orientation: Foundational state-mandated DSP training modules.
- CPR & First Aid: Current certification (or completion within 30 days of hire).
- Positive Behavior Supports (PBS): Training in Missouri DMH-approved positive support strategies.
Shift Expectations & Hours
- Hours: Up to 29 hours per week (Part-Time).
- Schedule: Flexible hours based on individual schedules and community activity times (typically afternoons, evenings, or weekends).
Pay: $19.00 - $22.00 per hour
Benefits:
- Flexible schedule
- Paid training
Work Location: In person
Salary : $19 - $22
