DEFINITION
Under the general direction of the High School Principal, provide an instructional program that is fully integrated into the school’s curriculum and is central to the learning process.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Structure a physical classroom environment conducive to learning.
- Establish efficient classroom management procedures.
- Establish and maintain expected standards of student behavior with administrative support.
- Establish a system of student evaluation within the guidelines prescribed in State law or adopted by the District.
- Continually evaluate and record various aspects of students’ progress and report to parents as needed and required.
- Teach within the course of study for subject area or at grade level as prescribed in State law or adopted by the District.
- Plan and implement standards-based lessons.
- Provide planned learning experiences using a variety of instructional methods and strategies in order to motivate students.
- Identify students’ needs and cooperate with other professional staff members in assessing and assisting students.
- Provide varied instruction as appropriate in order to attempt to adapt the curriculum to the needs of students.
- Perform basic attendance accounting tasks as required.
- Observe professional working hours as designated by the HEA bargaining unit contract.
- Attend school and District meetings as designated by the HEA bargaining unit contract.
- Supervise students in out-of-classroom activities as required by the HEA bargaining unit contract.
- Perform adjunct duties as designated by the HEA bargaining unit contract.
- Share the responsibility of communicating the educational program to the community through such activities as open house and back-to-school nights.
- Seek to improve competency by periodically participating in professional growth activities.
- Provide emergency lesson plans for substitutes.
- Plan and coordinate the work of aides and other paraprofessionals and student teachers (when applicable).
- Other related duties as assigned.
- Valid California teaching credential authorizing service in the assigned subject/grade level.
- Completion of all coursework and testing to establish subject matter competency as required by the No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB).
- Valid CLAD, BCLAD, or other certification authorizing instruction to English Language Learners.
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
- Knowledge of principles, theories, practices, methods and techniques used in curriculum development and classroom instruction.
- Knowledge of classroom procedures which promote appropriate student conduct and motivation for student learning.
- Ability to work effectively with a wide variety of organizations and with people of all socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds; understand, implement, and give complex oral and written directions in English; maintain cooperative relationships with those contacted in the course of work; compose clear, complete and concise correspondence and reports independently using grammar, syntax, punctuation and spelling; manage a positive and educational classroom environment.
- Holds a valid California Drivers License.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls, talk, and hear. The employee frequently is required to sit, stand, and walk. The employee is regularly required to reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- The employee must occasionally lift and or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE
Valid California teaching credential authorizing service in the assigned subject/ grade level. Successful prior teaching experience or successful completion of student teaching requirement. EVALUATION The performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel.
