What are the responsibilities and job description for the Gunsmith I position at Hughes Group LLC?
Title: Gunsmith I
Location: JBLM, WA
Schedule: Monday – Friday, 7:30 am – 4:30 pm
Pay: $32.09 $4.93 H&W per hour
Small arms inspection, maintenance, and minor repairs. Perform detailed assembly and disassembly of foreign and domestic small arms weapons.
Duties:
- Knowledge of the tools (i.e. hammers, punches, files, stones, etc.) and gauges needed to perform assigned duties.
- Limited knowledge in the operation and tooling use of gun-smiting machinery such as lathes, milling machines, surface grinders, etc.
- Knowledge of basic shop safety procedures is needed to work in a small arms environment.
- Performs shop support functions for the, to include bead blasting and preparing metal parts for refinishing.
- Other support functions include, but are not limited to, ammo inventory and residue turn-in, publication and catalogue updates, tool and capital equipment maintenance, calibration control, weapons cleaning, and organizational level weapons maintenance.
- May assist the primary instructor in conducting Armorer’s courses on specific small arms systems.
- Perform all other position-related duties as assigned or requested.
Minimum Position Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
- Must have a high school diploma or equivalent and a minimum of 1 year experience as a Gunsmith.
- Must be able to lift on an occasional basis a maximum of 70 pounds with frequent or constant lifting of 40 pounds.
- Demonstrated understanding of Safety and OSHA Law & Regulations
- Must be able to climb in and out of military vehicles and related equipment.
- Must be able to stand for prolonged periods of time.
- Must be able to work in cramped areas for prolonged periods of time.
- Must be able to work in all types of weather conditions including heat, wind, rain, and snow or sleet.
Requirements:
- Must pass a pre-employment background check and drug screen.
- Must be able to pass a background check and attain a security clearance if required.
- Must be able to pass random drug testing (as required).
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Common Access Card (CAC).
- Must be a U.S. Citizen.
- Must be able to speak, read and write English proficiently.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Military background in maintenance management preferred
