Summary
The Licensed Practical Nurse performs nursing function and duties as prescribed by North Carolina Nurse Practice Act and Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital standards. May have total responsibility for some patient and assistance from staff nurse with the care of other patients assigned. Continues with Care Plan and interventions designated by the registered nurse. Follows up patient assessments after registered nurses initial assessments.
Education and Formal Training: Graduate of an accredited school of practical nursing with current and valid licensure as Licensed Practical Nurse in the State of North Carolina and biannual renewal. Current certification in CPR, ASLS and PEARS. New employees required to have certification will be expected to have current certification at new hire or obtain CPR within 30 days of hire date.
Work Experience: Prior experience preferred but not required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required: Knowledge of nursing techniques, practice and procedures, drugs, their dosage, actions administration techniques, side effects. Must be proficient in the operation and maintenance of all unit specific equipment, including IV Pumps, computer terminals, printers, facsimile machines, patient beds, CPR equipment, One Touch Glucometer. Demonstrates high level of mental and emotional tolerance and even temperament when dealing with people. Uses tact, sensitivity, sound judgment, and professional attitude when dealing with patients, families, and co-workers at all times. Knowledge of current hospital emergency policies and procedures is required (fire, safety, disaster, and infection control policies).
