What are the responsibilities and job description for the Preschool Health Aide position at Hudsonville Public Schools?

Summary: The Health Aide RN will assist preschool-age student with additional health needs. This includes attending the child on the bus to and from school.


Hours:
7:30am - 1:30pm, Monday-Thursdays. 24 hours per week.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Ensure implementation of health care plan(s) and provide direct nursing support to a preschool age student
  • Assist student with physical/medical needs including but not limited to: respiration care including cough assist and suctioning; catheterization/assistance with bathrooming, etc
  • Work in conjunction with School Nurse Consultant and building staff to maintain appropriate documentation
  • Supervise student involved in classroom and non classroom activities
  • Implement/follow teacher instructions of classroom activities and procedures
  • Consistently reinforces philosophy of classroom management
  • Demonstrate an understanding of students’ strengths and needs and respects confidentiality
  • Work with individual and/or small groups of student in the academic setting under teacher direction
  • Other duties may be assigned

Education and/or Experience:

Required:

  • Certification/licensure in nursing
  • Experience with respiration care including tracheostomy care
  • Ability to develop effective working relationships with students, staff and the school community
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
  • Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies

Preferred:

  • Additional training and/or education


Language Skills:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret communication including emails, letters, spreadsheet and forms Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from the community, regulatory agencies or staff members


Mathematical Skills:

Ability to calculate basic mathematical formulas; add and subtract totals; multiply and divide; determine percentages and decimals; spatial aptitude to inspect length and weight of objects


Reasoning Ability:

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
