Part-Time Laboratory Manager – Microbiology

Hudson Water Lab – trade name of Hudson Pool and Spa Testing is a NJDEP-certified environmental microbiology laboratory specializing in pool, spa, and recreational water testing. We are seeking a Part-Time Laboratory Manager who is comfortable combining hands-on microbiological analysis with regulatory oversight and quality management in a small laboratory setting.

Key Responsibilities

Laboratory Operations & Analysis

• Prepare media, reagents, and supplies in accordance with approved SOPs
• Perform microbiological analyses including:
• Heterotrophic Plate Count (HPC)
• Total Coliform / E. coli (e.g., Colilert)
• Pseudomonas (membrane filtration or approved methods)
• Incubate, enumerate, and record analytical results
• Maintain accurate and complete records and logs

Quality & Compliance

• Ensure compliance with NJDEP NPW01 certification requirements
• Review QC data, corrective actions, and analytical records
• Maintain audit readiness and support regulatory inspections
• Review and approve SOPs, QA/QC documentation, and PT results
• Serve as a technical resource for analysts and sample collectors

Supervision & Leadership

• Supervise and mentor laboratory analysts
• Provide hands-on training and competency assessments
• Ensure adherence to safety, documentation, and quality standards

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in microbiology, biology, environmental science, or related field
• 5 years’ experience in a regulated microbiology laboratory (preferred)
• Prior experience performing and reviewing microbiological analyses
• Familiarity with NJDEP, NELAP, or similar certification programs
• Understanding of Standard Methods and QA/QC requirements

Pay: $35.00 - $50.00 per hour

Expected hours: 15.0 – 25.0 per week
