The Aquaculture Technician position is responsible for the care of the production systems including animal husbandry, system cleaning, and general maintenance.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Animal husbandry:
- Weight sampling
- Health sampling and disease screening
- Seining, grading and moving
- Harvesting
- Water quality testing
- Analysis of water quality data to optimize animal welfare
- Careful observation of animal behavior
Cleaning and operation of:
- Biofilters
- Drum filters
- Foam fractionators
- Ozone and UV disinfection systems
- Pumps and aerators
- Tanks and system
Qualifications & Requirements:
The ideal candidate will have an Associate degree (or above) in Aquaculture, Fisheries, or a related field. However, individuals passionate about fish and aquaculture of any education level are encouraged to apply. Experience with and strong understanding of fish care is preferred. Candidates should be able to demonstrate robust time management skills as this large farm requires planning and coordination to run efficiently. Self-motivation and strong work ethic are essential to excel in this position. Teamwork is key to our company culture, being able to effectively communicate and discuss solutions in a professional manner is critical.
After a training period, aquaculture technicians work 4 days on/4 days off, 9-11 hr shifts, depending on schedule. Aquaculture technicians are expected to work weekends, holidays, nights, and on-call on a rotational basis. Must be able to lift 50 lbs and be on your feet for hours at a time.
