About The Role

As an Occupational Therapist, you will play a critical role in helping individuals of all ages regain and improve their ability to perform daily activities and enhance their quality of life. You will assess patients with a variety of physical, cognitive, and emotional challenges, developing personalized treatment plans that address their unique rehabilitation needs. Your work will involve collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to implement therapeutic interventions that promote independence and functional recovery. You will also educate patients and their families on adaptive techniques and assistive devices to support ongoing progress outside of clinical settings. Ultimately, your efforts will contribute to the holistic well-being and empowerment of patients facing conditions such as stroke, traumatic brain injury, cerebral palsy, and orthopedic impairments.

Minimum Qualifications

  • A Master's or Doctoral degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited program.
  • Current and valid Occupational Therapist license to practice in the United States.
  • Certification from the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT).
  • Demonstrated experience in rehabilitation settings, including working with geriatric and neurological populations.
  • Strong knowledge of therapeutic techniques related to sensory integration, orthopedic rehabilitation, and stroke recovery.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with pediatric populations, particularly those with cerebral palsy.
  • Additional certifications or training in specialized rehabilitation areas such as traumatic brain injury or geriatric rehabilitation.
  • Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems and documentation software.
  • Experience in interdisciplinary team leadership or case management.
  • Advanced skills in patient education and family counseling.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive patient evaluations to assess physical, cognitive, and sensory abilities.
  • Develop and implement individualized occupational therapy treatment plans based on patient assessments and goals.
  • Provide therapeutic interventions focused on rehabilitation for conditions including stroke, traumatic brain injury, cerebral palsy, and orthopedic injuries.
  • Collaborate with physical therapists, physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate patient care.
  • Educate patients and caregivers on adaptive strategies, assistive devices, and home exercise programs to support functional independence.
  • Document patient progress and update treatment plans accordingly to ensure optimal outcomes.
  • Participate in continuous professional development and stay current with advances in occupational therapy and rehabilitation techniques.

The required skills in occupational therapy, physical therapy, and rehabilitation are essential for assessing patient needs and designing effective treatment plans that promote recovery and independence. Expertise in geriatric rehabilitation and stroke rehabilitation allows you to address the complex challenges faced by older adults and those recovering from neurological events. Knowledge of cerebral palsy and sensory integration techniques enables you to tailor interventions for patients with developmental and sensory processing disorders. Orthopedic rehabilitation skills are critical for restoring function after musculoskeletal injuries or surgeries. Additionally, your ability to apply these skills daily ensures comprehensive care that improves patient outcomes and supports their return to meaningful activities.
