SUMMARY:
Quinn Middle School (grades 5-7) seeks to provide an ambitious science program anchored in real-world problem-solving. The grade 6 teacher plays an essential role within this program.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSILBILITES:
- Design and implement next-gen units that inspire students to create and innovate, take action and lead, and connect with their community.
- Assess student progress towards objectives to inform instruction and provide feedback to students and parents. Manage student behavior to provide a safe learning environment.
- Differentiate classroom work to address individual learning needs.
- Work with science team to align instructional strategies and practices.
- Work with Principal and staff to support the instructional goals of the school.
- Develop ongoing communication systems for parents, students, and the community.
- Build enthusiasm for science learning within the community and foster partnerships with community institutions.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
Required:
- Massachusetts DESE license - General Science 5-8
- SEI Endorsement
Highly Preferred:
- Massachusetts DESE license - ESL
- Bilingual (Portuguese)
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Successful completion of Criminal Records Check (CORI), and fingerprints
EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Hudson School Committee’s policy on evaluation or in accordance with union contract.
WORK YEAR:
- 10 months, 183 days
- 3 personal days, 13 sick days, days prorated pursuant to date of hire

While performing duties of this job, the employee may often remain in a stationary position for considerable periods of time. The employee will have also have ample periods of standing and may be required to traverse throughout the building. The employee must frequently use hands and frequently operates a computer and other office productivity machinery (i.e., calculator, copy machine, and computer printer). Physical abilities may also include lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling, stooping/crouching, reaching/handling, talking/hearing conversations, and near/far visual acuity/depth perception/color vision/field. Ability must be able to lift and/or push and pull 15 to 20lbs for short periods, and walk up and down stairs several times a day. The employee must be able to communicate effectively with students, staff members, and the public in person and on the telephone.
