What are the responsibilities and job description for the Second Press Man position at Hudson Printing Co?
Functions as an assistant to Head Pressman. Serves as apprentice for Head Pressman position. Responsible for accurate registration on jobs, while Head Pressman is responsible for color.
REQUIRED TASKS:
- Is an apprentice for Head Pressman’s position. As such, is responsible for learning total press operation and being able to act as Head Pressman in absence of regular Head Pressman.
- Hangs plates and blankets.
- Checks bluelines for changes.
- Pulls and marks quality control samples.
- Assures proper registration on all jobs run on press.
- Assists Head Pressman in whatever capacity is necessary.
- Cuts packing for plates and blankets.
- Works with roll tender and jogger when necessary. Relieves roll tender and jogger for breaks.
- Performs duties of roll tender and jogger when necessary.
- Knows and applies all company safety policies and procedures, and ensures safe work habits from fellow crew members.
NECESSARY QUALIFICATIONS:
SPECIFIC EDUCATION:
- Must have a minimum of 5 year’s experience on a 4-color press in a continually progressive capacity, i.e., jogger, roll tender, etc.
- Must possess a thorough knowledge of web press operations.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Has the ability to climb, balance, stoop or crawl, reach, stand, push, pull, lift and grip.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Production/Press room environment
- Normal working hours are:
Day A-Shift: Sun-Tue, (6 AM - 6 PM)
Day C-Shift: Wed-Friday(6 AM - 6 PM)
Night B-Shift: Sun-Tue, (6 PM - 6 AM)
Night D-Shift: Wed-Friday(6 PM - 6 AM)
- Workload may require working additional hours/days, including weekends, and, on rare occasions, holidays.
- Since presses do not stop once jobs are begun, there are no set breaks or lunch periods. Breaks and lunch periods will be taken as the jobs allow.
