Position Overview
The Environmental Compliance Specialist supports project teams by ensuring that construction, maintenance, and operational activities comply with federal, state, and local environmental regulations, permits, and project-specific requirements. This role conducts field assessments, prepares documentation, provides technical guidance, and assists with regulatory coordination to maintain compliance throughout the project.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct field assessments and site visits to verify compliance with environmental permits and regulations (SWPPP, NPDES, USACE, USFWS requirements).
- Monitor implementation of erosion and sediment controls, stormwater best management practices (BMPs), spill prevention measures, and waste handling procedures.
- Prepare clear and accurate reports, field notes, and photographic documentation.
- Review construction plans, environmental permit conditions, and project documents to identify requirements and ensure proper implementation.
- Assist with permit modifications, compliance reporting, and regulatory coordination.
- Provide technical guidance regarding environmental requirements and recommended measures.
- Participate in internal and external project meetings to discuss compliance status.
- Maintain organized compliance records and documentation.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Biology, Natural Resources, or related field preferred but not required.
- 1–5 years of experience in environmental compliance, construction monitoring, or environmental fieldwork.
- Working knowledge of environmental regulations, including the Clean Water Act, Endangered Species Act, and Oklahoma’s OKR10 Construction Stormwater Permit.
- Experience interpreting construction plans and environmental permits.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Proficiency with GPS, tablets, and digital data-collection tools preferred.
Work Environment
- Hybrid office and field role; outdoor work on uneven terrain and in varying weather conditions.
- Occasional evening, weekend, or travel requirements depending on project needs.
