What are the responsibilities and job description for the Medical Assistant/Patient Services Assistant/Phlebotomist - Mobile Health (Full-Time) position at Hudson Headwaters Health Network?
Proposed Schedule: 37.5-40 hours per week. Monday-Friday 8am-4:30pm.
Position Summary
This position is a hybrid between a Medical Assistant, Patient Services Assistant and Phlebotomist (MA/PSA/PHL) with direct patient care duties as well as a variety of administrative duties. The MA/PSA/PHL provides age appropriate population specific patient care in a compassionate, caring, culturally and ethnically sensitive manner, by instituting practices that promote the organizations mission, vision and core values under the direction of the responsible Registered Nurse and Provider. The MA/PSA/PHL acts as a key member of the health care team ensuring that patients, providers and other team members receive prompt and professional service. To perform this job successfully, an individual must flexible as the role varies from day to day. The daily and weekly assignments are provided by the Practice Leader and/or Nurse Leader who determines the location and focus of work based on changing needs of the Health Centers.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Abide by HIPAA and PHI standards
- Provide high quality patient care and customer service in both urgent care and primary care settings as needed; contributes to teamwork of the staff and Network while presenting a positive view and patient-minded vision, with patient satisfaction as the continuing goal
- Adhere to standards, policies and procedures for diagnostic and point of care testing, including specimen collection, quality assurance, documentation in the electronic medical record and patient education
- Stay current on relevant standards, policies and procedures, infection control requirements specific to role and cleans, disinfects and sterilizes medical equipment according to set standards
- Maintain annual competencies and required continuing education, if applicable
- Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned; attends meetings and trainings as assigned. Assists with training of staff as needed
- Perform all procedures in opening and closing departments in accordance with policy and procedure
- Provide highest level of customer service in all interactions with internal and external customers
- Ensure timely response to inquiries from insurance companies and/or circulates to appropriate personnel
- Demonstrate competence in MA and Phlebotomist clinical skill set
- Perform phlebotomy and other specimen collection per Network procedures and protocols.
- Prepare specimens for submission to lab per protocol
- Complete home draw phlebotomy service when assigned
- Review incoming laboratory results, prioritize, and forward to the appropriate provider and/or nursing staff for timely review
- Label critical results with a “red flag” notation when appropriate
- Assist providers with lab billing issues when needed
- Reconcile outstanding results to optimize turnaround times through investigation
- Ensure that lab-related quality measures are updated in the electronic record
- Assist with inventory and receipt of medical supplies and equipment
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and ability to perform the essential functions:
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Successfully achieve the Network Medical Assistant Certification within 90-days of signing the job description
- Experience with medical terminology and/ or a medical office setting preferred
- Experience with phlebotomy, including infants and adults preferred
- Knowledge of lab values preferred
- Knowledge of lab diagnosis codes preferred
- Knowledge of current relevant nursing practices and standards of care
- Valid driver license and reliable transportation
- 1-year health care experience; prior experience in ambulatory care preferred
- Current BLS certification required
- Demonstrated computer competencies including electronic medical record and/or practice management experience
- Experience with Microsoft Office required
- Must be self-directed, detail oriented, motivated and able to work independently as well as in a team atmosphere
- Strong verbal and written communication skills. Excellent customer service skills required
The pay rate for this position is $20.81/hour.
