About This Role
Reporting to the Director of Academic Affairs, the Coordinator will facilitate workshops, conduct individual and group tutoring sessions, supervise, train part-time tutors, and coordinate all the activities that are offered by the Abegail Douglas Johnson Academic Support Services Department at the Academic Support Center at the North Hudson Campus. Responsibilities are carried out in accordance with the College's commitment to academic support and services for the development and improvement of students' learning skills.
The Coordinator will have a passion for serving students and feel strongly about the role that community colleges play in advancing social and economic mobility. The Coordinator will be an advocate for access to higher education, particularly for first-generation and immigrant students. The ideal candidate will preferably have an understanding of and a commitment to the philosophy and mission of HCCC.

Summary Of Duties
What You’ll Do
- Oversees the daily operations of the Academic Support Center, including, but not limited to, the following tasks:
- Provides leadership, training, and support to part-time tutors and work-study students regarding tutoring methods and techniques and may suggest alternative tutoring styles to accommodate the learning needs of students.
- Creates schedules for tutors using EAB Navigate, monitors appointments and student progress, and generates data
- Reviews and approves tutor timesheets.
- Meets with students, assesses the level of support and services required, and determines proper placement in individual,
- Provides tutoring in English and writing related courses to individual students and groups of students.
- Guides and assists students with homework assignments, problem solving, test preparation, and the development of
- Produces/updates workshop materials and facilitates workshops.
- Creates student satisfaction surveys to assess the quality of tutorial services.
- Observes tutorial sessions and provides feedback to tutors.
- Plans and actively participates in all tutor training and orientation events.
- Participates in the department's assessment, strategic planning, and Cyclical Program Review activities.
- Contributes to the development and expansion of the department's services.
- Researches and selects learning materials, teaching aids, textbooks, software, and equipment to facilitate tutoring. Provides guidance with practice tests, follows course syllabi, and designs specific handouts and related study materials.
- Ensures the prompt identification and timely resolution of student problems, provides guidance, and explains the established processes and procedures to ensure that students receive optimal support.

- Follows and ensures departmental compliance with relevant federal, state, and local regulations, established Student and Academic Affairs policies and procedures, and the rules and regulations defined by the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
- Operates in accordance with established departmental and College policies and procedures, working in tandem with other members of the College community.
- Supports the Director of Academic Affairs in the recruitment, recommendation, and subsequent hiring of part time tutors. Operating within the established Human Resources Department policies and procedures, performs resume screening and interviewing of tutors to meet program demands.
- Creates and distributes promotional materials, and visits classrooms and participates in Open House and New Student Orientation events to promote the services.
- Develops professional and managerial skills through independent research, networking, attending seminars and workshops, etc., to maintain awareness of current and changing trends in education specific to academic support services.
- Represents the College to external constituencies and exudes professionalism, confidentiality, courtesy, honesty, fairness, and integrity.
What You’ll Do
- Minimum of a bachelor's degree in Business Administration, English, Education, or a closely related field
- A minimum of one year of tutoring or teaching experience preferred
- Experience and interest in teaching adult students from diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds
- Ability to work effectively with others and have well-developed oral and written communication skills, including computer and information literacy
- Experience with Ellucian or other higher education software preferred
- Comprehensive knowledge of tutorial objectives, principles, methods, and techniques with the ability to plan, organize, and direct the operations of related programs and activities
- Highly effective verbal and written communication skills, interpersonal, and customer service skills to effectively collaborate with new and existing students, Division Deans, faculty, advisors, counselors, and all levels of employees and management
- Bi-lingual ability is helpful but not required
- Demonstrated ability to interact with a culturally diverse population and to effectively and respectfully function and communicate within the context of varying beliefs, behaviors, orientations, identities, and cultural backgrounds
