Purpose Of Role

The Ranch Hand performs general ranch work as directed by Ranch Manager, such as operating and maintaining the operational condition of ranch equipment, caring for livestock, etc.

Role Accountabilities

Livestock Management & Care

  • Provides comprehensive daily care to livestock, including feeding, watering, raising, and protecting animals.
  • Assists with core herd management activities such as breeding, calving, branding, shoeing, and selling animals.
  • Handles, herds, and safely transports ranch livestock.
  • Administers directed health care treatments to animals as required.

Equipment & Machinery Operation

  • Safely operates light vehicles and ranch machinery (e.g., pick-up trucks, tractors, water buffalo, and cattle trailers) in accordance with traffic laws and manufacturer instructions.
  • Utilizes a variety of farm and power tools, including post augers, post drivers, sprayers, trimmers, chain saws, electric drills/saws, and gas or electric welders.
  • Strictly adheres to safety protocols by wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) such as goggles, gloves, and protective clothing during all operations.

Infrastructure & Land Maintenance

  • Maintains ranch equipment, corrals, buildings, facilities, grazing lands, and property in an orderly, clean, and safe condition.
  • Constructs new fencing and performs repairs on existing fences.
  • Oversees the general upkeep and routine maintenance of all associated ranch infrastructure.

Minimum Qualifications And Education

Education : A high school education or the equivalent is required

Experience : At least three years of experience working on a farm or ranch and performing work such as caring for livestock, fixing fence, cutting trees, mowing, and baling hay, etc. Experience in operating and maintaining farm equipment, such as tractors, mowers, chain saws, etc. is required.

The work environment will necessitate work near moving mechanical parts and outside weather conditions such as hot and/or dry conditions. Work will be conducted in locations where noise, fumes, dust, toxic or caustic chemicals, and vibration may exist.

Employee must be able to prove that he/she has a current and valid driver’s license.
