Saw Operator

JOB SUMMARY

The Saw Operator performs metalworking operations which cut shape and form sheet or other light metal into parts or products and is responsible for meeting daily production requirements. Operation and setup of saws, radial drills, and tapping machines. Precise work according to design drawings, parts lists, and work orders. Working independently according to specifications.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The following represents a list of essential duties and responsibilities. Other duties may be assigned or re-assigned as the Manufacturing Facility expands.

• Set up and operate one or more cutting machines such as saws, shears, drills, or profile benders to cut, bend, roll or otherwise shape and form metal stock into parts or products.
• Check product quality for correct shapes, angles, dimensions, and other specifications.
• Deburring of cut parts.
• Troubleshoot and perform corrective action or minor repairs on non-conforming parts.
• Transport material to the work area manually or using an overhead crane or pallet jack.
• Using barcode scanners for logging and moving material from location to location.
• Provide timely information regarding problems in production that may adversely affect quality, or delivery time.
• Analyze tooling, setups, and procedures and make recommendations for improvements.
• Read and understand manufacturing drawings in order to set up machines properly for the operation.
• Remain constantly alert to detect improper part cutting.
• Troubleshoot general material issues as they arise.
• Work as part of the team to share ideas and improve operations, recommending, supporting, and implementing continuous improvement activities and process and procedure improvements to optimize results and improve quality of delivery, in line with quality standards.
• Undertake continuous training and development.
• Perform routine maintenance on saws and other cutting machines.
• Troubleshoot problems with machines and remedy.
• Follows all safety policies and procedures.
• Works to meet set goals agreed with by Machining and Fabrication Supervisor.
• Other duties as set forth as set forth my the Machining and Fabrication Supervisor or Manufacturing Director.

SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES

1. Ability to perform cut parts with accuracy and precision.
2. Calculate and check distances and angles of parts based drawings.
3. Great working knowledge of vertical band saws, horizontal band saws and shears.
4. Able to troubleshoot why material is non-conforming.
5. Knows how to work with different hand tools in a safe manner.
6. Read and understands blueprints.
7. Inspect parts visually and mechanically for conformance to the print and process dimensions.
8. Able to operate, overhead cranes, and other lifting devices.
9. Maintain work area and equipment in a clean, orderly, and safe condition.
10. Good communication skills and attention to detail.
11. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
12. Exceptional organizational and time-management skills
13. Ability to manage multiple projects at one time.
14. Ability to work under pressure.
15. Understanding of production processes with strong regard for production quality.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Consistent attendance is expected and required. Flexibility to respond to troubleshooting issues. While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in a shop setting with exposure to shop noise, dust and particles to be expected in this role.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

2. Must have manual dexterity - to operate and utilize a variety of power and hand tools assembly or shop tasks required - use of hands and feet required - data entry possible.
3. Lifting of metal is involved which can be heavy.
4. Regularly required to stand, reach, bend, squat, push, pull, and move about the facility.
5. Walk or stand at least 8 hours per day.
6. Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
7. Regularly lift 30-50 pounds.
8. Regularly perform repetitive tasks.
9. Vision and dexterity for using computers and machine user interfaces.
10. Hearing and vision are important to the Shop Labor’s safety on the job, as well as to be able to read blueprints and specifications. Consistent attendance due to tight production schedules is required to meet the needs of our customers.

POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK

This is a full-time position. Standard days and hours of work are currently Monday - Friday, 5am-3:30pm with a 30-minute lunch (this is subject to change).

REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS

• High school diploma or GED, or equivalent years of experience.
• Descent computer skills.
• Minimum 5 years working directly with vertical or horizontal saws.
• Use of hand & power tools along with hydraulic equipment.

PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS

• Experience directly with H.E.M. brand saws and their user interfaces.
• Some experience with profile bending
• Some experience with shears.
• Equipment Manufacturing background a plus
