The Engineering Intern supports the engineering team in improving plant processes, equipment reliability, and operational efficiency within a sodium bicarbonate manufacturing facility. This role provides hands-on experience in a heavy industrial environment, assisting with data analysis, project coordination, process optimization, and documentation.
The position plays a key role in supporting continuous improvement initiatives, capital projects, and troubleshooting efforts while gaining practical exposure to engineering applications in manufacturing.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
- Ensure full compliance with Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
- Assist engineers with data collection, analysis, and reporting for process improvements and operational performance.
- Support ongoing capital and maintenance projects, including planning, tracking, and documentation.
- Participate in troubleshooting equipment and process issues alongside engineering and operations teams.
- Develop and update standard operating procedures (SOPs), work instructions, and technical documentation.
- Conduct time studies, process mapping, and efficiency evaluations.
- Assist in evaluating equipment performance and identifying opportunities for reliability improvements.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives such as Lean, Six Sigma, or other operational excellence efforts.
- Perform basic engineering calculations and assist with design modifications under supervision.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including operations, maintenance, and safety.
- Maintain accurate records, reports, and project documentation.
- Follow all company policies, procedures, and food safety requirements.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Chemical, Mechanical, Industrial, or related field) required.
- Completion of sophomore year or higher preferred.
- Basic understanding of engineering principles and manufacturing processes.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Familiarity with data analysis tools or CAD software is a plus.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to interpret technical data and drawings (preferred).
- Willingness to learn and work in an industrial plant environment.
