What are the responsibilities and job description for the Prototype & Tooling Apprentice position at Hubbardton Forge LLC?

We are looking for the next round of Prototype and Tooling Apprentices and your experience is less important than your desire to learn and be challenged.
SPECIFIC ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Curriculum and hands on Training
- Comprehend study material that enables the association of the task to the trade.
Metal Sketches and Prototype
- Review and analyze Creative ideas and designs provided by the design team.
- Assist team members to translate design concepts into metal sketches.
- Through trial and error and using a variety of machining, forge and welding techniques, translate metal sketches into a functional and accurately designed prototype.
- Following metal sketch approval, aid in the layout drawings of prototypes.
Design Parts and Tools
- Assist team members during the design, engineering and tool construction that can be used by production to efficiently manufacture high quality products that accurately represent prototypes.
- Aid in the creation of gauges and standards as needed to ensure accuracy and quality of newly built products.
- Provide knowledge and advice to Engineering and Supply Chain on the value of making vs. purchasing parts.
Inventory Control
- Accurately document all necessary information related to inventory control.
- Effectively communicate problems to appropriate personnel.
- Assess all components for inventory control purposes on an ongoing basis throughout the work shift.
Safety
- Know and follow safety rules at all times.
- Utilize appropriate safety devices and protective equipment.
- Identify and communicate safety hazards and confront others when violations of safety standards occur.
- Identify potential safety hazards and initiate ways to address.
- Maintain cleanliness of work environment.
- Follow ergonomic principles at all times when performing work.
Quality Control
- Assess all components for quality control purposes on an ongoing basis throughout the work shift.
- Make quality decisions according to established standards.
- Effectively communicate problems to appropriate personnel.
- Follow appropriate processes, standards and specifications to meet quality expectations in all aspects of work.
OTHER DUTIES:
- Unload steel.
- Cross training to other departments such as Weld, Assembly, Forge, Fulfillment, and Maintenance.
- Other duties as assigned.
