Job Overview:
We are seeking a skilled and experienced Traveling Commissioning Engineer specializing in data center cooling systems to join our team. This role is critical in ensuring the proper installation, testing, and commissioning of HVAC and cooling systems in data centers across various locations. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background, hands-on experience in HVAC systems, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Commissioning & Testing: Perform detailed commissioning, testing, and validation of data center cooling systems, including CRAC/CRAH units, chillers, cooling towers, and related controls.
- Site Inspections: Conduct pre-commissioning site inspections to verify system installation and readiness for testing.
- Troubleshooting: Identify, diagnose, and resolve any issues related to mechanical and control systems during the commissioning phase.
- Documentation: Develop and maintain comprehensive commissioning reports, including test results, configuration settings, and punch lists.
- Collaboration: Work closely with project managers, design engineers, contractors, and client representatives to ensure all systems meet project specifications and operational requirements.
- Training & Support: Provide on-site training and support to the client’s operations team on system operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
- Compliance: Ensure all commissioning activities comply with relevant codes, standards, and best practices, including ASHRAE and local building regulations.
- Travel Requirements: Travel to various data center locations, both domestically and internationally, as needed (3-18 month deployments)
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field. Relevant certifications (e.g., ASHRAE, NEBB, ACG) are a plus.
- Experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience in commissioning, installation, and testing of HVAC and cooling systems, preferably in data centers or mission-critical facilities.
- Technical Skills: Strong understanding of HVAC principles, cooling technologies, and control systems. Familiarity with BMS (Building Management Systems), DCIM (Data Center Infrastructure Management) software, and related tools. Ability to use measurement equipment proficiently.
- Problem-Solving: Excellent troubleshooting skills with the ability to diagnose complex mechanical and control system issues.
- Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills; able to prepare detailed reports and communicate effectively with stakeholders.
- Adaptability: Willingness to travel frequently and work in varying environments, including international locations.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to lift heavy equipment, work in confined spaces, and stand or walk for extended periods.
