Position Summary
This is a full-time on-site role for a Senior Arterial Operations Engineer working at the Traffic Management Center in Bradenton, FL. You will lead active arterial management operations including monitoring and optimizing real-time traffic flow, analyzing traffic data, managing responses to incidents and special events, advancing strategic ITS initiatives, and implementing continuous improvements for traffic flow and safety. You will be the face of arterial operations in coordinating with various stakeholders and aligning with broader regional traffic goals. Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and optimize arterial signal timing plans using traffic engineering software (Synchro, TruTraffic, etc.).
- Direct real-time arterial traffic operations and coordinate with freeway management staff.
- Lead traffic responses to major incidents, special events, and roadway disruptions.
- Oversee the integration, deployment, and maintenance of ITS technologies, including adaptive signal control, detection systems, and communications infrastructure.
- Supervise, mentor, and train traffic operations staff, fostering professional growth and team performance.
- Analyze traffic performance data to measure system effectiveness, identify improvements, and implement corrective actions.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders, partner agencies, and external consultants to align arterial operations with broader regional mobility goals.
- Ensure arterial operations comply with safety standards, engineering best practices, and applicable regulations.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering, or related field.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
- Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in traffic signal operations, arterial management, or transportation systems management and operations (TSMO).
- Demonstrated proficiency in Synchro and TruTraffic. Similar traffic modeling and analysis tools is also a plus.
- Strong leadership skills with experience mentoring or supervising staff.
- Exceptional communicator, skilled at presenting complex technical concepts in clear terms to stakeholders, staff, and community partners.
