Structural CAE Engineer – Abaqus
Overview
We are seeking an experienced Structural CAE Engineer to support high-voltage battery structural design and analysis using advanced CAE tools. This role will work closely with design and engineering teams to evaluate and improve structural performance through simulation, analysis, and correlation with physical testing. The position offers the opportunity to contribute to innovative battery technologies in a collaborative engineering environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Build 3D battery structural analysis models from CAD designs.
- Debug complex finite element (FE) models independently.
- Perform structural simulations at the system, subsystem, and component levels using nonlinear FEA tools.
- Conduct pre-processing and post-processing activities using industry-standard CAE software.
- Evaluate simulation results and provide technical recommendations to engineering teams.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to obtain simulation boundary conditions and support design development.
- Correlate CAE models with physical test data and improve model accuracy.
- Support structural testing activities, including instrumentation and data analysis.
- Coordinate with global engineering teams on meshing and geometry cleanup activities.
- Prepare technical reports, recommendations, and engineering documentation.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related field.
- 4 years of experience working with structural components and designs in an engineering environment.
- Minimum 3 years of experience performing nonlinear FEA using Abaqus.
- Strong experience with Abaqus and HyperMesh.
- Experience with CAE tools such as nCode, fe-safe, and 3DEXPERIENCE (3DX).
- Experience building, analyzing, and troubleshooting structural CAE models.
- Strong understanding of structural analysis, finite element methods, and model correlation techniques.
- Experience correlating CAE results with physical test data.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- Graduate-level coursework or research involving finite element analysis (FEA).
- 5 years of experience in structural CAE modeling and simulation.
- Experience with HyperView, ABAQUS Viewer, Teamcenter, ANSYS, OptiStruct, or similar tools.
- Experience with fatigue analysis tools such as FEMFAT, nCode, or fe-safe.
- Proficiency in Abaqus Python scripting for automation and post-processing.
- Knowledge of fracture mechanics, material behavior, crack initiation, and crack propagation.
- Experience with thermal-mechanical coupled analysis.
- Experience with optimization tools such as modeFRONTIER, iSight, HEEDS, Tosca, or OptiStruct.
- Experience with physical testing and data collection.
