Senior Backend Engineer – GCP & Big Data
Overview / Summary
We are seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to design, build, and operate high-throughput backend systems that ingest, process, and serve large volumes of data. This role focuses on distributed systems, data engineering, cloud technologies, and API development to deliver scalable, reliable, and low-latency services.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop scalable, high-performance backend services and APIs.
- Build and maintain real-time and batch data pipelines for processing high-volume event streams.
- Architect and optimize data access layers across multiple storage technologies.
- Design stored procedures, views, and query patterns that support reporting and analytics requirements.
- Implement data aggregation, transformation, and enrichment logic to ensure accurate and consistent outputs.
- Build and maintain data contracts and schema evolution strategies to support system stability and backward compatibility.
- Integrate backend services with cloud-native infrastructure, including event-driven architectures, scheduled jobs, serverless functions, and container orchestration platforms.
- Implement observability practices, including logging, distributed tracing, and metrics monitoring.
- Participate in on-call support activities to maintain service reliability and availability objectives.
- Apply security best practices, including authorization controls, secrets management, and data privacy standards.
- Collaborate with product, data science, platform, and engineering teams in an agile development environment.
- Contribute to technical design reviews, code reviews, and architectural decisions.
- Bachelor's Degree.
- 7 years of IT experience.
- 5 years of software development experience.
- Practical experience in two programming languages or advanced expertise in one programming language.
- Experience deploying and managing applications on Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
- Experience with large-scale data processing technologies and big data platforms.
- Experience developing or integrating Artificial Intelligence and/or Expert Systems solutions.
- Experience designing, building, and consuming RESTful or gRPC APIs.
