The Billing Agent serves as a liaison between health care providers, patients, and insurance companies. Their primary responsibilities include managing and transferring patient information, submitting claims to insurance companies, and ensuring timely payment for medical services. This role also involves rebilling or correcting previously submitted accounts when necessary. Additionally, the specialist must maintain the confidentiality of patient information and follow up with insurance providers to address any delays or issues with non-payment. Duties include backup duties as assigned.

Illustrative Examples Of Position Duties
- Is responsible for all end of the month functions and documentation.
- Monitors fee shares for annual updates and also monitors fee adjustments for bi-annual updates.
- Provides phone and face-to-face billing support to clients and HSS staff.
- Completes spenddown information.
- Pursues continued billing pre authorizations and client billing eligibility.
- Reviews daily appointments for outstanding balances and meets face to face with clients carrying large balances and asks for payment.
- Assists with month end close process. Involved with billing for nights of care, ROCS billing, and other non-insurance related billing activities. Mails monthly statements to clients.
- Opens and closes clients in electronic health records and also monitors that bi-annual registrations are completely timely.
- Adheres to all HIPAA guidelines/regulations.
- Assists with general review of accounts receivable, taking lead from the Director of Business Operations and Quality/CCO.
- Supports Director of Business Operations and Quality/CCO with administrative tasks, including but not limited to scanning, mailing, etc.
- Assists with cash receipts processing as a shared duty.
- Other duties as necessary or related to the successful completion of other stated position duties, or
- Credentialing for Licensed Staff.
- Monitors claims status and seeks resolutions.
- Monitors and process EOB’s.
- 1 years of billing specialist/agent experience preferred
- Requires knowledge, skills and mental development equal to a high school degree.
- Business or technical school degree in related areas is a plus.
- Electronic spreadsheet and electronic data processing knowledge is required - strong Excel skills.
- Must be very detail orientated.
- Professional phone skills and tolerance and patience to deal with clients via phone as well as face to face on a daily basis.
- Willing to ask clients for money.
