Position Overview:

The Safety Patrol Member is responsible for conducting routine safety inspections of work lines, production areas, and construction activities to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with company policies and OSHA-mandated safety requirements. This role plays a frontline part in hazard recognition, employee observations, documentation of unsafe conditions, and communicating corrective actions in a professional and proactive manner. The Safety Patrol Member supports a culture of safety by engaging with employees, reinforcing safe work practices, and escalating serious concerns to the Sr. Safety Specialist.

Key Responsibilities

Line and Work Area Inspections

• Conduct scheduled and unscheduled patrols of production lines, construction zones, maintenance areas, and workstations.
• Inspect tools, equipment, machinery guards, housekeeping, and material storage for compliance with safety standards.
• Observe employee work practices to identify unsafe behaviors or deviations from approved procedures.

Hazard Identification and Risk Recognition

• Identify hazards including slips, trips, falls, electrical exposures, pinch points, line-of-fire risks, improper PPE, chemical hazards, hot work risks, and blocked egress paths.
• Verify LOTO, confined space, working at heights, and hot work controls are properly implemented.
• Recognize early indicators of equipment wear, structural issues, or unsafe conditions.

3. Corrective Action Guidance

• Provide immediate coaching or corrective instructions.
• Document hazards using company checklists or EHS systems.
• Recommend corrective measures such as improved housekeeping, additional guarding, PPE requirements, or equipment repair.

4. Documentation & Reporting

• Complete daily or weekly safety patrol reports.
• Record findings, photos, and details in the company EHS system.
• Notify the Sr. Safety Specialist of serious or imminent hazards.
• Assist in trend reporting for near misses and recurring hazards.

5. Employee Engagement & Support

• Serve as a visible, approachable safety presence.
• Encourage safe work habits through positive reinforcement.
• Support new hire safety orientation and toolbox talks.

6. Compliance Monitoring

• Ensure work areas adhere to OSHA and site-specific procedures.
• Verify signage, barricades, and permits.
• Assist in maintaining updated safety communication boards.

Qualifications

Required:

• OSHA 30-hour certification.
• 1–5 years of experience in safety, production, maintenance, or construction.
• Knowledge of OSHA regulations and safety principles.
• Ability to recognize hazards and communicate corrective actions.
• Strong communication and documentation skills.

Preferred:

• First Aid/CPR certification.
• Experience conducting safety audits or inspections.
• Familiarity with digital EHS reporting tools.
