Duties
- Safely operate a variety of trucks, including tractor-trailers, flatbeds, refrigerated trailers, tankers, dump trucks, roll-off trucks, and other specialized vehicles.
- Follow planned routes using GPS navigation systems to ensure on-time delivery and efficient travel.
- Load and unload freight manually or with equipment such as forklifts, ensuring proper handling of hazardous materials and dangerous goods in compliance with FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) regulations and hazardous materials regulations.
- Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections to verify vehicle safety, including checking brakes, tires, lights, and cargo securement.
- Maintain accurate logs of driving hours, delivery documentation, and compliance records in accordance with DOT (Department of Transportation) regulations.
- Communicate effectively with dispatchers regarding route adjustments, delivery schedules, or any issues encountered during trips.
- Ensure all cargo is secured properly and handle logistics cargo with care to prevent damage during transit.
Skills
- Proven experience in commercial truck driving with a solid understanding of route driving and freight handling.
- Proficiency in operating manual transmission vehicles and specialized trucks such as refrigerated trailers, flatbeds, tankers, dump trucks, or roll-off trucks.
- Strong knowledge of FMCSA regulations, DOT requirements, hazardous materials handling, and safety protocols for transporting dangerous goods.
- Excellent driving record with a focus on safety and compliance at all times.
- Ability to navigate using GPS systems accurately while managing time effectively for deliveries.
- Skilled in manual handling techniques for loading/unloading cargo safely and efficiently.
- Experience with forklift operation is a plus for loading/unloading logistics cargo when necessary.
