What are the responsibilities and job description for the Anesthesiologist position at HRMD/Texas Pain Physicians?
The Anesthesiologist is a Medical Doctor who cares for a patient before, during and immediately following a surgical or medical procedure by administering appropriate anesthesia and monitoring the patient for reactions and complications, and to ensure comfort and manage pain. They remain by a patient’s side during surgery, where they adjust the anesthetic levels throughout the process and monitor the patient’s vital signs to ensure that no complications are occurring as the result of the surgery or anesthesia. Anesthesiologists will consult with a patient before they undergo an operation to explain the process and make sure that no allergies or existing medical conditions would conflict with the anesthesia.
Essential Functions
● The role will involve providing anesthesia coverage for GI and Pain cases.
● Meets with the patient prior to the procedure to evaluate the patient's condition and review their medical history.
● Explains the process so the patient knows what to expect.
● During the procedure, carefully monitors the patient's vital signs and comfort and makes the appropriate adjustments in anesthesia.
● Administering anesthesia through spinal, intravenous, caudal, or local methods
● Work with surgeons during an operation to administer anesthetics in a manner that won’t disrupt the procedure
● Following the procedure, continues to monitor the patient's vitals and may be involved in management of pain.
● Determining when patient is stabilized enough to be moved after an operation
● Supervises CRNA if needed
Qualifications:Infection Control Category
This job is designated as a Category I job using OSHA definitions. This means there are tasks that involve exposure to blood or other potentially infectious materials. Use of appropriate protective measures is required for all engaged in Category I tasks.

The Anesthesiologist will have access to confidential information, both written and oral, in the course of their engagement and job responsibilities. In order to maintain the integrity of Protected Health Information (PHI), this information is not to be disclosed to any unauthorized individuals as outlined in the Policies and Procedures of HRMD.
Supervisory Responsibility
The Anesthesiologist may supervise CRNA’s if needed.
Work Environment
This job operates in a professional medical clinic and/or ASC operating room environment following the standards of the AORN (Association of Operating Room Nurses.)
Physical Demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an Anesthesiologist in order to successfully perform the essential functions of this job and include (but are not limited to):
the ability to stand/walk for up to twelve (12) hours per day; bend, stoop, twist; assist patients in turning, rising from recliners and stretchers; assist patients in and out of wheelchairs; push wheelchairs; the ability to lift up to 25 pounds and carry materials weighing up to 25 pounds.
Travel
This position may require some travel.
Educational & Experience Requirements
● Licensed as a Medical Doctor in the State of Texas
● Completion of an Anesthesia Residency Program
● Maintaining State required CMEs on an ongoing basis
