Job Title: Area Chief Engineer
Department: Engineering
Supervision Exercised: Chief Engineers, Engineering Supervisors, Maintenance Technicians (across assigned properties)
Supervision Received: Vice President of Engineering
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Technical or vocational training in building systems, HVAC, electrical, or related fields preferred.
- Certifications such as EPA, HVAC, CPO, or related credentials strongly preferred.
Experience
- Minimum 5–7 years of hotel, resort, or commercial building engineering experience.
- Prior Chief Engineer or Engineering Manager experience required.
- Multi-property or regional engineering leadership experience strongly preferred.
- Experience with capital planning, mechanical systems, and preventive maintenance programs required.
Skills and Knowledge
- Strong knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and life-safety systems.
- Ability to lead, mentor, and develop engineering teams across multiple properties.
- Strong understanding of preventive maintenance, work order systems, and regulatory compliance.
- Ability to read blueprints, mechanical schematics, and technical documentation.
- Strong project management, budgeting, and time-management skills.
- Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.
- Ability to travel regularly between properties.
- Proficiency with CMMS/work order systems and Microsoft Office.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule including emergencies or after-hours calls.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide engineering leadership and support for multiple hotel properties within the assigned region.
- Conduct regular property visits to assess facilities, equipment, safety, and compliance.
- Guide Chief Engineers and engineering teams on maintenance priorities, staffing, and daily operations.
- Ensure execution of preventive maintenance programs, life-safety inspections, and regulatory requirements.
- Support capital planning, budgeting, and execution of engineering-related projects.
- Oversee vendor relationships, major repairs, and contracted maintenance services.
- Assist properties with emergency responses, equipment failures, and operational disruptions.
- Monitor utility usage, energy efficiency, and environmental standards across properties.
- Ensure strong communication between engineering teams and property leadership.
- Support onboarding, training, and development of engineering staff at each property.
- Ensure consistent implementation of company and brand engineering standards.
- Review work orders, logs, PM schedules, and compliance documentation for accuracy.
- Participate in leadership meetings and collaborate with Corporate Engineering.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by regional or corporate leadership.
