What are the responsibilities and job description for the Benefits Specialist position at HR Source Staffing?
We are seeking a remote then hybrid Temporary Leave of Absence (LOA) Specialist to provide coverage during a maternity leave beginning in December. This role will focus on administering employee leave programs, ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations, and supporting employees through the leave process. A secondary LOA Specialist role will be needed in February/March to cover an additional maternity leave in the same department. If either incumbent does not return, these positions may transition into temp-to-hire opportunities.
Approximately 6 months (with potential extension or temp-to-hire)
Key Responsibilities
- Administer employee leave of absence programs, including FMLA, CFRA, PDL, and other applicable state and federal leave laws.
- Ensure compliance with California leave laws and understand how eligibility requirements interplay across multiple leave types.
- Provide guidance to employees and managers regarding leave eligibility, documentation, and timelines.
- Draft and issue accurate LOA letters, maintaining meticulous tracking and documentation.
- Collaborate with HR and payroll teams to ensure seamless leave administration.
- Support employees with clear communication in both English and Spanish.
- Maintain and update leave tracking spreadsheets; utilize Excel for reporting and data accuracy.
Qualifications:
- Strong knowledge of California leave laws and administration.
- Bilingual in English/Spanish.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- High attention to detail and accuracy in documentation.
- Basic proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- Preferred:
- Familiarity with Oregon (OR) or Washington (WA) leave laws.
- Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, formulas, reporting).
- Prior experience in HR, benefits, or leave administration.
- Expertise in leave administration and compliance.
- Ability to manage complex eligibility scenarios.
- Strong interpersonal skills with empathy and professionalism.
- Organized, detail-oriented, and proactive problem solver.
- Primary LOA Specialist: Start in December for ~6 months or longer.
